In Bremer County only 1039 ballots were cast in the primary with 252 for Myrtle Leistikow and 143 for Betty Werlaufer while Fremont township totaled 100 votes with 41 for Leistikow and 28 for Werlaufer. Bremer County unemployment rate drops to five percent
Mel Anderson of Job Service of Iowa announced Bremer County’s unemployment rate fell to 5 percent in April, down a full point from March. He cited seasonal construction activity and noted many job orders are still arriving. the county compares unfavorably to neighboring Black Hawk at 7.6 percent. He urged teens and young adults to seek work, offering detasseling and rogueing opportunities, with registration forms at 116 West Bremer and a phone contact at 352 3844.
