Iowa State Regents approve tuition increases across state universities

Three Iowa State Regents announce a combined plan to raise tuition at the University of Iowa, Iowa State University, and the University of Northern Iowa. Officials say the increases reflect rising enrollment and inflation while warning the legislature’s 12 percent funding rise leaves campuses with austerity budgets and limited funds for equipment or repairs.

Rev Frank Ly to serve J Pauls United Church of Christ in Denver Kansas with his wife and three children. He previously led Star of the First Congregational Church in Ona Iowa and has extensive education from Grinnell Drake Iowa State and Cincinnati seminaries. Rural Waverly Man Accepts Teaching Post in Minnesota

Dean Clausing of Waverly, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Clausing, earned a Bachelor of Science in Education with a History major from Concordia Teachers College Seward Nebraska on May 31 and received a Lutheran Teacher Diploma. He has been assigned to St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Truman Minnesota for the fall term.

Final Rites for Richard Foelske Held in Denver

Funeral services were held Tuesday at St. Pauls United Church of Christ in Denver for Richard W. Foelske 41 of Janesville who died by suicide Saturday. Burial followed in the church cemetery. He was born January 31, 1928 in Bremer County to William J. and Charlotte Brockhoff Foelske and married Catherine Wedemeier in 1948. Survivors include his wife four children his mother a brother and a sister. He was active with the Bremer County Extension Council and Denver Co op Creamery before his death.

Sumner Jaycees Fly Breakfast June 22 Event

The Sumner Jaycees host an annual Flight Breakfast on Sunday June 22 with airplane and helicopter rides available all day. Breakfast begins at 6:30 a.m. offering pancakes eggs sausages coffee and milk for a $1.00 adult donation and 50 cents for children under 12.

Name Extension Aid for Bremer Chickasaw Offices

James Burrow of near Frederika will be Extension Aide assisting Bremer and Chickasaw County 4-H Programs this summer. He will help with Rally Conference camps educational presentations and the County Fair. Burrow is a former 4-H member county officer and junior leader and will be a senior in business education at UNI next year.

Summer Swimming Program Planned for Area Children

The Tripoli community summer swimming program for Frederika and Tripoli area children is set at Whitmire Memorial pool Sumner. David Van Ahn announces six week sessions starting June 17 with three daily slots 9:30 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. Registration costs 50 cents per child and 10 cents per session. season ticket holders are exempt.

Two Foreign Exchange Students Set for Denver High School

Principal Ronald Knudsen confirms two foreign exchange students for the 1969 70 Denver High School year. Jesper Andersen from Denmark and Rosemary Anne Lauder from England will reside with local host families and join classes, bringing interests in motorsports and geography respectively.

Funeral services for 66 year old Ross Kelsey were conducted Monday at Rettig Funeral Home Tripoli with burial at Fremont Cemetery. The Rev Azel Smith officiated. casket bearers were James Block Stanley Buhr Erwin Koschmeder Darrel Kelsey Alfred Schneer and Myron Shields. He was born May 29 1903 near Tripoli in Bremer County Iowa and lived in Nevada Iowa the past 28 years.

Marcia Nolte daughter of Mr and Mrs Harvey Nolte has been hired by the Denver Board of Education as vocal music instructor. A 1962 Waverly-Shell Rock graduate she holds a 1966 Westmar College BA in Music and English minor. She spent two years at Harford Girls Mission School in West Africa before returning home and teaching in Denver this fall.

Funeral Services Held Sunday for Adolph Koelling

Funeral services for Adolph W. Koelling 76 were held June 8 at St John s Maxfield Lutheran Church. He died Thursday at Allen Memorial Hospital Waterloo after a stay since May 27. Bremer County Board of Supervisors awarded four divisions of road rock bids on June 4 totaling 111 323 50 dollars, a 5 percent rise from 1968 due to labor and equipment costs. Hewitt Bros Inc won Division I, Paul Niemann Construction Co won Divisions II III and IV with unit prices ranging from 1 79 to 1 97 for stone on road and 1 25 for crushed stone. Elect County 4-H Council Members At Annual Rally

Bremer County 4-H elected its first council at Neumann Chapel Auditorium on June 5. Members include Arns, Davison, Dove, Fairholm, Pleggenkuhle, Becker, Drooste, Beine, Mummelther and Orth among others, with two honorary appointees Mrs. Max Hill and Richard Juhl.
