Waverly Grounds hosts family Home Show weekend

The Vacationers Home Show runs June 6 to 8 at Waverly Grounds with free admission. Exhibits cover gravel materials, flowers, lawn care, photography, pool information, and more. Iowa Wild Life exhibit features birds snakes and mammals. shows run Friday to Sunday with music, square dancing, and demonstrations by local groups.

Readlyn Serviceman Aboard Missile Cruiser USS Galveston

Marine Corporal Steven Otto, son of Mr and Mrs Elmer Otto of Readlyn wa, is serving aboard the light guided missile cruiser USS Galveston. The ship recently visited Galveston, Texas for the first time in seven years after returning from a four month tour in the Western Pacific and is headed to the Mediterranean with the U S Sixth Fleet.

Rough Fish Control Plan for Sweet Marsh Area

Conservation officials plan a rough fish control project in the Martin Lake segment of Sweet Marsh. A population survey using an electric shocker will gather age weight and measurement data to compare game and rough fish, with captured game fish released in other segments. If needed rotenone will be applied to eradicate rough fish and restore recreation.

Louis Gitch Family to Host Farm Exchange Student

The Louis Gitch Family near Sumner will host an International Farm Youth Exchange student in July. A. G. Srini vasa Reddi of India will stay July 11 to 30, visiting Iowa dairy farms and later Wisconsin. Reddi, from Anantapur, India, farms rice vegetables nuts dairy cattle and seeks hands on dairy experience. He leads Village Youth Club and sits on the District Cattle Breeders Association. The program is run by the National 4-H Foundation with 4-H sponsorship through members and friends.

Little Leaguer Registration Set for June 9 in Tripoli

Little league baseball registration is set for Monday June 9 from 1 to 3 p m at Tripoli south park. Dave Ray program administrator reminds a parent must accompany the boy. Practice starts June 10 with sessions through June 20. Games begin June 23 for intra city and inter city play over an eight week period. Intra city games 8 to 12 year olds on Mondays and Tuesdays. Inter city competition for 8 to 12 and 13 to 15 year olds runs Thursdays and Fridays.

Legion Auxiliary Meeting Set for June Ten

Volunteers Sought to Help Meri Cerebral Palsy Therapy

Community leaders in Tripoli seek volunteers aged 14 and up for a three year program aiding Meri Van Ahn, a two year old with cerebral palsy. Volunteers will assist at Meri’s home with rhythmic movement therapy designed to retrain the brain. Memorial Day Observed In Tripoli With Services

Tripoli observes Memorial Day with traditional services attended by a near capacity crowd. The ceremony at Faith UCC Cemetery concluded with a salute to the nation’s dead, led by guest speaker Rev. Fred Brown. Local veteran groups VFW and American Legion Post organized the event.

Bremer Supervisors Expand Secondary Road Program

Bremer County Board of Supervisors approved the first supplement to the Secondary Construction Program at the May 26 meeting. The add included paving at the Shield Bantam plant entrance in Waverly, a 350 foot approach on highway No. 3 costing about 3500 dollars, and a 1 mile grade between sections 25 and 36 in Maxfield township from Klinger east. A 0.75 mile grading project near Douglas township was dropped at landowners’ request, with funds from the original program. The board also contracted Pest-Kil Chemical Corp of Des Moines for monthly rat control at county dumps east of Plainfield and south of Waverly. Word said Stockwell and Wolfs Hatchery road work near Waverly will delay until mid September.

Band Concert Dates Set Start Summer Series on June 18

Tripoli Community High School bands announce four summer concerts directed by Earl Dickinson. Events on the tennis court near the high school with a Harvest Festival show downtown if weather requires an indoor gym plan at the elementary school. THS Marching Band To F'burg Dairy Day Mason City

The Senior High Marching Band of Tripoli Community High School will join two events next week in Iowa. On Wednesday June 11 they perform in the Dairy Day Parade at Freder icksburg and on Thursday June 12 attend the Mason City Band Festival with about 86 bands from Iowa and southern Minnesota. Free lunches swimming and movies are offered. A massed band concert at 4 pm precedes the crowning of the 31st North Iowa Band Queen Judy Boeckmann daughter of Mrs Angie Boeckmann.

Tripoli Girls Open 16-Game State Softball Slate

Tripoli girls softball opens a 16 game schedule under coach Dave Van Ahn. The team swept a double header at Fredericksburg 19 10 in the JV and 18 5 in the varsity. Thirty one players in grades 9 through 12 attend practice, with most games scheduled as double headers.
