Talking and sound pictures will be shown in Tripoli starting Wednesday evening and each Wednesday night through the summer. The venue between the Tripoli Hardware store and Hub Billiard parlor seats 250 to 300. Admission is 10 cents for adults and 5 cents for children. Helen Briggs of Waukee Iowa, visiting at the home of her sister Mrs Walter Beisner, returned home Tuesday evening.
Edwin Peters 30s son of J C Peters used a shotgun at his father’s farm 40 miles southeast of Tripoli. Body found in barn behind the house about six this morning. Coroner and physician said death by gunshot likely hours earlier. No known motive or troubles. heat of past days maybe affected mind. Survived by father two brothers and five sisters. funeral plans not announced.
Oscar A Hankner of Tripoli will be among 26 Iowa graduates at the University of Illinois Champaign 62nd annual commencement next Monday. He earned a BA two years ago and will receive his Master of Science degree after two years of study during which he served on the university faculty.
The American Legion Auxiliary will hold its regular monthly gathering at the Legion hall Tuesday evening June 13 at 8 30. Poppy sales report and old business will be addressed as the last meeting before summer vacation. Publicity Officer notes good attendance is anticipated.

St. Peter's Evangelical church reports no services Sunday as the minister attends a conference. St. John's Lutheran also has no Sunday school or services while the pastor joins a mission festival at LaPorte City. Senior choir practice is set for Thursday at 8:00 p.m.
Nashua defeated Tripoli 8 to 1 in a Cedar Valley league game on Sunday. Nashua pitcher Wilson shined in key moments, while D Chandler hit a homer for Tripoli and Nashua’s fielding limited errors. Box shows Nashua scoring early and adding runs, with Canty Bowers Holmes contributing multi hit performances.
Readlyn’s pitching and errorless defense edge Waverly 3 to 0 as Franks strikes out 10 and Spear hits the lone extra base hit. Diekmann collects two Waverly hits, Welcher allows seven hits for the losers, and Readlyn scores in the first, fifth, and sixth to stay undefeated. A large crowd braved light rain to watch.

Funeral services for Edmund Webster age 75 pioneer resident of this locality were held Monday at 1 30 p m at the home west of Sumner. Rev D D Hammond of Waterloo officiated and burial was in Wilson Grove cemetery. Lookout Lodge A F and A M conducted the service. He is survived by widow two daughters Edna Webster and Mrs Frank Lang and two sons Clyde and Claude all of this vicinity One son Ralph died in November 1925.
Mrs. Carl Hoppenworth nee Wilhelmina Brase died at her Douglas township home on Tuesday morning June 6 after a long illness. Aged 47, she leaves her husband and nine children, eight at home and one married. Funeral services are Friday June 9 at 1 pm from the home, continuing at Western Douglas church with Rev Raum officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The Muhlenhaupt home on south Main hosted a Sunday gathering to mark Mrs Wilhelmina Muhlenhaupts 79th birthday with a large family reunion. Attendees from Readlyn Waverly Waterloo Dubuque New Hampton and Hamp ton contributed to a dinner cake and lunch. A handmade quilt from daughter Rose was given and despite age she remains active in home duties.
Voters in Illinois and Indiana went to the polls on Monday and Tuesday and cast large majorities in favor of repealing prohibition laws. With these results, ten states have now supported repeal. Indiana, once seen as among the driest states, is hailed as a major victory for repeal forces.
Depositors have signed about 75 percent of the required deposits for the bank’s reopening under the reorganization plan. Remaining 20 to 25 percent must agree to the plan, with public funds and large deposits already turning in agreements. Town and county officials, along with several school boards, have passed resolutions waiving deposits to support reopening, which hinges on obtaining the final signatures. Forty two thousand dollars in checking accounts will be available once the bank resumes normal operations and trust fund earnings will revert accordingly.

Burial rites for Harry Ambrose, 40, who died Wednesday at his home after a lingering illness, were held Saturday at the Church of the Immaculate Conception with Father J. J. Costello officiating. Burial was in the Catholic cemetery south of town. Surviving: daughter Marjory of San Pedro, California. brother Frank of Summer. sister Mrs. Robert Ritchie of Oelwein. Will Steinbron and son Donald of northwest of town visited the Ambrose home Sunday afternoon.
Weather friendly days push paving toward completion on Primary 59 with about 5000 feet of cement slabs left including the Wapsie bridge. Work began last week with trucks arriving and crews moving to the site while Sumner Tripoli and Waverly clubs bid for funds from a pending federal industrial bill to finance Iowa highway projects.
Robert McDonald a Bremer county farmer and Frederika resident died Tuesday June 6 at his home after a prolonged cancer illness. The service was held at 1 30 in the home and 2 00 at the church with burial at the local cemetery.

Bremer pounded Tripoli 10 to 2 on the local diamond Tuesday evening as Du ker, Bremer’s ace pitcher, overpowered the visitors with fast shoots and steady defense. Tripoli struggled at the plate and in the field throughout the contest.
A late homer in the seventh inning flipped a 4 to 5 deficit into a 6 to 5 Waverly victory at home. Tripoli sent a picked team of kittenballers to face Waverly under the lights Tuesday evening.
Ten people were injured in a May 30 auto crash north of the city. Mrs Snyder and four children, plus Mrs Snyder’s mother Mrs Astace, suffered injuries including a shoulder fracture and internal injuries. Joseph Snyder, age four, broke a collarbone. Driver Mr Simmons had a deep neck gash. nurse Miss Wilder and Glenn Renner escaped with minor cuts. Investigators found a bottle tossed from Simmons’s car.
The body of George R Cruthers, a former resident, was brought here for burial after dying at his home in Luck Wisconsin on Saturday. He was born December 17 1862 and lived here until about ten years ago. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 PM at Koch Funeral Home with Rev Giles Sharpley officiating and burial in Harlington Cemetery. Survived by his widow two daughters Mrs George Wescott Summer and Mrs Ethel Biggie Waterloo and Rex Cruther Luck Wis, one sister Mrs Jack Rousch Horton and one brother Ed Cruthers Luck Wis.
The American Legion Auxiliary report shows nearly 100 dollars raised in the city last week from the poppy sale. Otto Deike of Plainfield crafted 20,000 poppies for district distribution. He served seven months overseas, was gassed, and bears a foot disability. He receives one cent per poppy and is the son-in-law of Louis Sikert.
Rev Albert Guetzlaff, longtime Wartburg instructor of Bible German and Latin, accepts a pastorate at the Lutheran church in Sheldon Iowa. He and his family plan to move June 19 leaving after ten years in the city, having previously served Nashua and coming from Minnesota.
Three Waverly couples marked silver wedding anniversaries on Saturday June 3. James Scully and his wife celebrated thirty years since a Denver Colorado wedding on June 8 1908. Fred Koch and wife noted their Creighton Nebraska ceremony, with Koch then in Tripoli in the furniture trade. Fred Osterholm and wife celebrated the same time of day as the others.
Howard Ross of Walker was forced to have his left arm amputated at Mercy hospital Friday after a Greene truck sideswiped his car near Shell Rock last week. Three other occupants of the Roos car escaped injury by crouching down.
