Supervisors move to let maintenance on 120 miles of road with 9 miles per main district and 1500 units in each grain district. A total of one lot is being let. Four supervisors reject all bids on a junk Cambridge site near Denver. County plans to use force to dismantle prior to new construction.
A Social Security Administration district representative will hold sessions at the Waterloo Court House on June 23 1969 and at Sumner Hall on June 17 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. People may call the Waterloo district office at 525 W 5th Street for details. The Waterloo office is open Mondays 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Mayor Edwin Walternate appoints nine-member board including Mrs Hillis Creger Janice Holmes Mrs Howard Stevens Mrs Elmer Chester Mrs John Meggitt Mrs John Roach Wm Lynes Ed Wosseller and Francis Harrington to establish a library on Main Street in the former Orcutt Paint Store as initial work begins.
Jim Nuss rolled the highest men's game of the Courier Tour in Waterloo, finishing with a 266. He tossed the score for Hasbrouck Voetmann, placing a standout performance at the tournament’s end.
S A Maurer was admitted to Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo on Thursday and underwent surgery on Tuesday.
Memorial Day events in Readlyn are hosted by the Readlyn VFW Post with grave side services at Zion and St. Paul Lutheran cemeteries at 9 30 a m and a parade at 10 30 a m led by the Wapsie Valley high school band marching from the south end of Main Street to the town park for services. The Rev. William J Menster of St Marys Church Waverly will give the Memorial Day address. A picnic dinner follows in the park or, if rain, at the VFW hall.
Mr and Mrs August Towne joined dinner guests in Lu ana to honor their daughter Pamela and son Ricky Pamela Towne earned a degree from Luther College Decorah May 18 Ricky Towne graduated from M F L High School Monona May 22 The event highlighted family and school milestones in a local gathering
Funeral services for Minnie Meswarb 68 were held Sunday at Faith United Church Tripoli with Rev. Keith Wheg officiating. Interment followed in Faith United Church Cemetery. Casket bearers were Elbert Meyer Eugene Stahlhut Moe Hagen Lawrence Buls Dolph Mohling and Victor Nae. She was born November 10 1900 to Christ and Louise Pries and married Henry Meswarb February 21 1924 at St Pauls Buckeye. They farmed near Ick Creek then north of Tripoli before retiring to Tripoli in 1961. She died May 22 after a stay at Mercy Hospital Waverly. Her husband Henry preceded her in death March 31. Survivors include four daughters Marlys Leisger Lois Rosenthal Mardell Irchhoff and Virgil Oswarth a Cedar Falls. one son and two sisters also listed.
Vacation Bible School at Crane Creek Church runs from Monday to Friday June 9 to June 13. Theme Be God's People features daily shows and lessons with staff Vicki Zander Ady Dettmer Kleen Sommerfelt Rebecca Barkhoff da Scheuldt and S Geo J Gundel assisting.

Sgt Gerald Lahmann arrived at Waterloo airport Tuesday for a leave after 19 months of duty in Vietnam. He will spend his leave in the area before returning to his unit or reassignment.
Frederika resident Cadet Kenneth C. Nuss, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest J. Nuss, will join more than 600 graduates in the U S Air Force Academy class. He earns a bachelor of science and commissions as second lieutenant on June 4 after studying aeronautical engineering and astronautics. He achieved Superintendents List and served as element leader cadet first lieutenant. Nuss will enter pilot training at Laredo AFB Texas. A 1963 Tripoli high school valedictorian and National Honor Society member, he was recognized for academic and military excellence.
April sales of Series E and H savings bonds and Freedom Shares in Bremer county totaled $32,989, part of a four month county total of $183,549 toward 33 percent of its 1969 quota. Greene leads Iowa at 57 percent, with Ringgold 47 percent and Calhoun 45 percent. Nationwide April sales hit $6,815,109 for Iowa’s four month total of $29,493,020. Governor Ray named Honorary State Chairman of the Iowa Savings Bonds Committee.
Mrs Hulda Schellhorn arrived last week and is now a resident at the local nursing home, adding to the facility's continuing admissions.

Steven Truog Dennis Mar quardt Eugene Johnson and Ricardo Pierpaoli left Wednesday morning for a camping trip to Lake Okoboji and South Dakota where they fished and sighted sights. They returned Friday evening.
Local veterans leaders urge all veterans and Tri Poli residents to attend a 10 am Memorial Day service at the town hall followed by a cemetery salute at Faith United Church. Rev. Fred Brown delivers the address. parade steps off at 9:45 am from the VFW Post Home led by the Tripoli high school band.
Daily Vacation Church School opens Monday morning at Grace Lutheran Tripoli for two weeks. Classes run 9 to 11 30 A M for children ages 3 through 8th grade. The course Be Gods People combines study and activity. Mrs Wilbert Frahm is superintendent and a full staff is in place. All community children invited.
Mr and Mrs Louis Schwerin Sumner will hold an open house at 300 West Third Street on Monday June 2 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm in observance of their 60th wedding anniversary No gifts please The Schwerin family will observe the anniversary with a family picnic dinner at the Alvin Schwerin farm home southwest of Sumner on Sunday June 1
Webster City attorney Bill Guthrie will head Denver American Legion and Auxiliary Memorial Day observances on May 30, 1969. The program includes a parade at 10:00, services at 10:30 in the high school gym, band selections, invocations, color guards, and a firing squad salute with Taps.
The State Conservation Commission Traveling Fish and Wildlife Exhibit will visit the Vacation Sports Home Show in Waverly on June 7 and 8. A 40 foot trailer displays Iowa wildlife with 100 living animals. conservation officers answer questions and hand literature.
Dr. James W. Rathe of Waverly was installed as president of the Iowa Heart Association at the group's annual meeting May 24 25 in Des Moines. Rathe, a Carleton College and Columbia University medical graduate, has served at Rolfe Memorial Clinic since 1960 and follows his father who led the state heart group in 1949 50.
The seven town league led by Tripoli includes Tripoli Spillville Elma Fort Atkinson Decorah Postville and Fredericksburg. The schedule runs May 25 to August 10 with each team playing 12 games and one weekly bye.
Approximately 1,700 students graduated at Iowa State University on May 24, the largest class in the university's history. Notables include Marshall H. Barkhoff with Agricultural Technology, David B. Kerr in Farm Operations, Vernon R. Moeller in Veterinary Medicine, Robert A. Federer in Fisheries and Wildlife Biology, and Mahlon C. Hammetter in Forestry, all recognized with respective degrees or certificates.
The Tripoli Commercial Club adopts policy closing business places on Friday May 30 in observance of Memorial Day.
Wapsie Valley High School graduated 72 seniors on May 16 with Becky Leistikow named valedictorian for the class. Judy Schneider was salutatorian, both teens from Fairbank with high GPAs, and Dennis Westendorf received the Readlyn VFW citizenship award. Danforth Awards went to Leistikow and Dale Brickmann.
