Funeral Services Held Tuesday for W. H. Segebarth
Funeral services for W H Segebarth aged 67 were held at 1 30 from Mei ral home Tripoli and at 2 00 at St Johns Lutheran Frederika Rev Senst officiated. He died Saturday July 19 at Allen Memorial hospital Waterloo after a lingering illness. Interment in Leroy township cemetery. Survivors include four children Margaret Bravener Fredericksburg Donald Waterloo Florine Bockhaus and June at home five grandchildren two brothers Louis Waterloo and Arthur Fredericksburg one sister Lizzie Pieper Tripoli. He was born October 23 1884 in Leroy township Bremer county and married Amelia Bremer in 1906 later widowed. He later married Ida Bremer. they lived in Frederika. He was clerk then manager of a general store, farmed near Frederika, ran a filling station, and was a St John’s Lutheran member.

The Summer reunion gathered 31 members and three guests on Sunday July 20 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Sommer. Clara Schmidt from Tripoli was the oldest present while Diana Gambaiani from Waverly was the youngest. Mr. and Mrs. Ewald Skeries of Manchester traveled the farthest.

Rites Held Today For Joseph Kern At Waterloo Church
Joseph W. Kern aged 69 of Janesville died at Mercy hospital Waverly after a week in hospital from age related illness. Funeral services were held at Kearns Garden chapel in Waterloo conducted by Rev. George G. Hunt with interment in Fairview cemetery. He was born Feb 24 1883 in Denver raised there later lived in Waterloo and Minneapolis and farmed near Tripoli before moving to Janesville in 1950. He married Pearl Knapp on July 5 1912 in Waterloo. Surviving are wife a son Cecil Syracuse Mo and a daughter Dorothy Brokay Red land Cal.

Mrs F C Hildebrandt marked her 83rd birthday on Monday July 21. Daughters Mrs L H Fink and Mrs K C Frank hosted relatives at the L H Fink home with a 5 PM cafeteria supper. A cake shaped like an open book, made by niece Mrs O Kimm of Denver, was given to the honoree. Family and friends from Tripoli Oelwein Denver Las Crescenta Waterloo and West Union joined in the celebration with lunch served and more guests Monday evening.

Death of Fred Matthiesen after surgery at 74
Fred Matthiesen 74 of Tripoli died Sunday July 20 at Scholtz Memorial hospital Waterloo from complications after surgery. Funeral services were held at Matthias funeral home Tripoli and St John s Lutheran Crane Creek with Rev E M Fuchs officiating. Burial in St John s Cemetery Crane Creek. Casket bearers were Elmer Buhr George Buhr Erwin Reding Arnold Duecker Henry Deterding and Earl Matthiesen. He was born Sept 16 1877 to Amos M Matthiesen and married Minnie Buhr in 1910. Survived by son Amos Waverly daughter Mrs Beevers Tripoli one brother August Colorado one sister Mrs Bert Buhr Tripoli and one grandchild. Preceded in death by wife three brothers and two sisters.

Loren L Moeller of Tripoli was inducted into the armed forces in Des Moines marking the start of his service. He has closed his contracting business for the period of his service. Six more Bremer county youths are to be inducted Aug 4 though their names have not been released by the draft board.

David Paul Kuethe five year old son of Mr and Mrs Paul Kuethe was taken to Iowa City hospitals Monday diagnosed with polio. Mrs Kuethe said Tuesday the case is very light with no paralysis. If he improves he is expected home by week’s end.

Frequent storms and heavy downpours affected Northern Wisconsin and Minnesota last week with fishing hampered by heat and storms. Crop progress shows oats just starting and corn behind Iowa readings, while conditions overall compare favorably to northern Iowa.

Corn Stretching Out: Hot and Humid Weather Prevails
Seven hot and humid days have depressed people and livestock but benefited a promising corn crop. High eighties to low nineties with ample humidity marked the week. Oats harvest finished with fields ready for combining. About half the corn tasseling stage and roughly half an inch of rain were recorded. Local observer E. C.
