Futrell predicts near 1970 fed cattle market in July to September
Futrell expects fed cattle marketings to run at or slightly below 1970 levels due to more heavier cattle on hand July 1. July-September demand should stay near April-June volumes with total marketings possibly higher over July-September due to more cow slaughter. Marketing weights may be a touch lighter, with stronger cattle on feed in the Southwest and West and heavier weights in the Corn Belt. Iowa Choice steer prices forecast at 31 to 32 dollars, with Oct- Dec easing to 28 to 30. Feeder cattle prices should stay strong, near or above 1970 fall levels, with a possible light fall dip.
