Waterfowl Status in US and Canada in 1932–33 Season
The Biological Survey reports waterfowl in the United States and Canada show slight overall improvement over 1931, aided by more snow and rain and reduced hunting. Concentrations occurred in western Lake Erie, Illinois, Louisiana, Texas, Mattamuskeet Lake, South Carolina, Chesapeake Bay, and western states. Some species with broad ranges increased, while others with restricted ranges remain scarce, risking collapse if breeding or nesting seasons turn unfavorable. Excessive June heat and low rainfall in the Great Plains and nearby Canadian prairie regions signal potential further declines.
