In a Cedar Valley league contest at Waverly on Sunday afternoon, Tripoli’s pitcher changes and a rally of seven runs, sparked by Kasemeier and Neverman, overwhelmed the locals. Beisner Holmes Rohde Stahlhut and Belknap contributed to the offense as Waverly edged Tripoli 10–? with strong field play by Stahlhut and Webster. Umpire Dayton.
Nine Shell Rock errors and sixteen Dunkerton hits led to a 15 to 4 win for Dunkerton in a Cedar Valley league baseball game on Sunday. Dunkerton scored seven in the third after two in the second, added four in the sixth and one in the seventh. Batteries: Gaddis and Page for Shell Rock Ramige M Newell and Opperman for Dunkerton.
Nashua remained undefeated in Cedar Valley play by routing Janesville 16 to 0 on Sunday. Wilson pitched for Nashua, allowing only one hit as the home club peppered the scoreboard with 16 runs.
Fairbank defeated Plainfield 4 to 2 in a tight Cedar Valley league game. The contest featured a close finish as Fairbank secured the win with timely scoring and solid defense.
New district court listings include R E Laird vs Max and Orra Falls with attachment to recover an automobile. State of Iowa files two indictments against F J Wilharm. S A Munger case and Harriet Hegwin divorce from William Hegwin. John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance sues F A Robinson for 12660 in foreclosure. Town of Sumner sues S F Bray and an appeal from Sumner mayor's court noted.
Robson Bros. one ring circus will perform two shows on Tuesday July 25 in Panzer's pasture opposite the stock yards. The traveling show from Oelwein features eighteen acts including trained animals aerialists and jugglers with performances in the afternoon and evening. Admission costs 10 and 25 cents.
Four Frederika township men Henry Meier Leslie Meier Arnold Bergmann and Herbert Biermann were fined in Justice Floyd Smith s court for illegal fishing and possession of a 120 foot seine. Bergmann and Leslie Meier received 100 fines with 30 day terms and 75 dollars suspended. Biermann and Henry Meier also faced 30 day sentences. Officers testified a 14 inch mesh seine was found in a machine shed on the Meier farm and Bergmann signed a statement admitting seining on June 14 in the Wapsie River.
The Tripoli Legion baseball team defeated Allison 5 to 3 at Waverly to claim the third district championship and advance for state honors. Earlier they won the sub district at Eldora by topping Waterloo and State Center. Gehrke and Krueger sparkled in defense and offense. Ludeman and Johnson contributed key hits as Tripoli broke it open late.
Miss Amanda Bock of this city married William Schroeder northwest of Tripoli on Wednesday July 12 at the Peace Evangelical church parsonage in Waverly. Rev C Gabler officiated. Attendants were Mr and Mrs Harry Lindberg. The bride, daughter of Fred and Mrs Bock, sr., has lived in Tripoli and worked for Mr and Mrs Lee Peacock. The groom, a farmer, has lived in the area all his life. They will reside on the groom’s farm and will be at home to friends.
Otto J. Warneke, serving his third term at Readlyn, will leave the post office August 31 after receiving and complying with a resignation request from the Washington DC post office department. He is cited for pernicious political activity and insulting a member of congress. Candidates named to succeed him include Walter Meier Paul Meyer and Ernie Seeman.
A 225 guest celebration honored Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Meyerhoff on their 25th wedding anniversary. Relatives from Waterloo and nearby towns attended at Wolf hall, with Rev. Theo Frese delivering a Psalm 103 and Luke 24 message and a 60-seat supper and cake display.
Bremer county total expenditures and receipts for Jan 1 to June 30, 1933 stood at 722320.60, down over 30000 from 1932. Receipts highlight motor vehicle license fees 24342.50 in 1933 versus 303...
Bremer County spent 11 527.73 in the year ending June 30 1933 for criminal proceedings in the district court with grand jury investigations into closed banks contributing heavily. Other 1932 38 expenses include fees for justices of the peace magistrates and police courts grand jury costs sheriff and officers jurors and witnesses court reporting jail costs and attorney fees plus travel by Mrs F W Klein to St Paul.
Miss Mary Ellen Weires and Al Korn, both of this city, wed in Michigan City Indiana on Saturday July 15. Attendants were Donald Korn and Jeanette Wolfe. The bride, daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Weires, is Wartburg graduate and law office employee. The groom, son of August Korn, attended Wartburg and works at Lutheran Mutual Aid. They will reside in Waverly.
Mrs. William D. Babcock narrowly escaped drowning at Wabedo Minnesota after falling from a surf board behind a motor boat into 25 feet of water. John Hemingway and Bob Nygren, swimming nearby, rescued her using lifesaving skills learned as scouts and towed her to shore as her husband failed to stop the boat in time.
Carl Reith, proprietor of the Reith and Van Dorn barber shop, died at his home after months of illness from hardening of the arteries and complications. He had been bedbound for weeks. Survived by his wife and other relatives. Funeral services probably Thursday afternoon though arrangements aren’t set. Died Monday noon.
The Waverly band enters Class A in the Cedar Falls music contest August 10 and 11 to mark the city’s 80th anniversary. Prizes total 375 for bands from towns of 3,000 plus. Cedar Falls bands barred. Judge lineup includes noted bandmasters.
