A long list of visitors and social calls fills a weekend in many Iowa towns. Des Moines and Waterloo hosts received friends from Nashua, Denver, Chicago, Cedar Falls, Oelwein, New Hampton, Readlyn, and other nearby areas, with meals and dinners noted in several homes.
Sunday evening guests in the L L Moeller residence included Mr and Mrs Ben Moeller Sumner Mr and Mrs Erwin Heine and family Waverly Mr and Mrs Richard Bast Readlyn Mr and Mrs Hen ry Blasberg and Mr and Mrs Larry Vogt and family.
A birthday observance Friday evening at the William Niemeyer residence gathered many guests including Mr and Mrs Fred Rick Shirley Debbie and Danny Waverly Mr and Mrs Paul Weideman Linda Edwin Begalske Elaine Deweese Hawkeye Mr and Mrs Ir Haynes Frederika and others. A Sunday picnic dinner followed with numerous attendees from Hawkeye Cedar Rapids and Evansdale including W P Begalske Merlin Wesley Morse Rodney Lionel Begalske Linda Jane and Jim Will Faust Bertha Ohmann Raymond Brockway Debbie Lynn Kevin Allen and Danny.
Mr and Mrs L H Fink traveled to Fairmont Minnesota on Friday to visit their aunt Ella Meier age 86 in very poor health. Meier was taken by ambulance to Pleasant View Nursing Home in St James Minnesota after noon. Her room is number 20 and the home had just opened. The Finks returned Sunday evening.
Mr and Mrs Richard Schmidt baptized their daughter Tracey Leigh at Faith United Church of Christ on Sunday morning with Rev E F Puhlmann officiating. Sponsors were Mrs Larry Reinig of Toledo and Mrs Bill Hills. Dinner guests included Burdette Anderson and family Atkins Ralph Shaffer Elgin and the sponsors and their families.
Sunday picnic guests at Wayne Quass home included Mr and Mrs Robert Pratt and Bobby from Waterloo, Mr and Mrs Gordon Grimes and sons from Moline Ill, Mr and Mrs Donald Streeter and sons from Fayette, and Mr and Mrs Earl Vere and family from Waverly. It also notes a Randalia High school graduation reunion from 1948. Robert Campbell and Fred Smith, Tripoli Community school principals, attended a drive in conference at State College of Iowa Cedar Falls on Friday for school board members and administrators with main focus on financing of schools.
House guests in the Alfred Koch residence were Mr. and Mrs. James Koch and family from Reno Nevada and Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Koch and family from Sparkwood New Jersey. Sunday visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Zickuhr Jr. and family from Waterloo.
Rodney Quass and James Brooks attended a Des Moines Register sponsored picnic at Prairie Du Chien Wisconsin on Wednesday. They toured Rose Park Zoo Villa Louis and enjoyed a Mississippi River boat excursion.
Mr and Mrs Jon Kowalsky and Troy and Jean and Joel Kowalsky of La Porte City visited Carl Kowalsky on Tuesday evening Jon kneeling on leave from the U S Navy has returned note birthdays Lavern Tegtmeyer and family and Robert Selck and family visited Sunday in the Duane Holm home to celebrate Duane and Spencer birthdays
Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Krueger and Alice visited Waterloo Sunday to honor Mr. and Mrs. Howard Witt on their golden wedding anniversary. The Witts are former Tripoli residents. Mrs. Rudy Piegers traveled from California to Iowa Falls to meet sister Mrs. W. E. Small who arrived by train from Granada Hills and will stay several weeks with the Piegers.
Mr and Mrs Gene Vincent and family with Uearl Pardee and Paul Miller joined a district Extension conference on Wednesday at Hayden's Prairie and Spillville. Mrs Dora Moblis funeral attended by Mrs Cletus Goodenbour and families in Sumner. Robert Campbell and John Bonifas attended the Yankee Twins game in Minneapolis on Thursday.
Marlene Drewis and Jerry Snelling united in marriage in a July 14 ceremony at Faith United Church of Christ. The couple, both Tripoli residents and graduates, will reside in Tripoli after a brief wedding trip.
Mr and Mrs Erwin Drape of Waverly announce the engagement of their daughter Diane Marie to Warren M Snyder son of Mr and Mrs J M Snyder of Tripoli The bride to be is employed at Lutheran Mutual Insurance Co in Waverly The groom is employed by Standard Oil in Des Moines They plan to wed on September 22.
Richard Schmidt came home Friday from St. Francis hospital in Waterloo marking his discharge and recovery after treatment.
Mr and Mrs Eugene Shouts returned from Mankato Minnesota where they attended a five week summer session at Mankato State College She is pursuing graduate work in elementary education and he in administration of public school instrumental music programs Both will return today and stay in Mankato for the remainder of the session
Mrs Bertha Debel and Mr and Mrs Albert Debel of Cedar Rapids were Thursday dinner guests in the Theo Debel home. They visited Mrs Marie Pedersen of Denmark who has been a guest in the Debel home. Marinus Mortensen of Clear Lake called to take his sister Mrs Pedersen home, where she will stay until July 29 before returning to Denmark.
A Social Security Administration representative will visit Sumner City Hall on August 21 from 9 to 11 a.m. and Waverly Courthouse on August 1 15 29 from 9 to 11 a.m. Residents may also call the Waterloo district office at 234 1554, room 702 Black Hawk Building West 4th and Commercial Streets.
Mrs. L. H. Fink led a group to the Northeast Iowa Association of Women’s Fellowship workshop of the United Church of Christ in Cedar Falls on Thursday. Also attending from Fredericksburg were Mrs. E. W. Kirchhoff, Mrs. Ray Schwarze, and Mrs. Carl Buenger.
Mr and Mrs G R Rettig and family plus Mr and Mrs Harold Kue Mr and Mrs Wendall Kue and Denise were Sunday supper guests of Mr and Mrs Leo Sauerbrei Sumner observing the third birthday of Perry.
Geraldine Kelsey departed Monday by plane to return to San Gabriel California where she is employed. She spent the last three weeks visiting her parents Mr and Mrs Victor Kelsey.
House guests at the Theo home include Mrs. A H Brinkman and William from Denton Texas, Mrs. Robert Lenius and Steven, and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Drape from Winter Park Florida visiting the household.
Engaged couple Carolyn Ann Schwake of Sumner and Jerry A. Biermann of Tripoli announce their engagement. Carolyn, a Sumner High School 1962 graduate, attended the State College of Iowa and works at Sumner Packing Co. Jerry, Tripoli High School 1961 alum, attends State College of Iowa. No wedding date set.
Funeral services for Fred Henry Spier 84 lifelong Bremer and Butler counties resident were held Tuesday at Pleasant Valley church Clarksville with burial in the church cemetery He died Saturday night at Mercy hospital Waverly after a brief illness Survivors include daughter Mrs Elton Meyer Hazleton and sister Mrs Lena Lahmann Tripoli He had made his home with the Alvin Schillings Clarksville
Mr and Mrs Virgil Bonorden and family from Denver left Sunday to visit LeRoy Bonorden in San Diego where he is stationed with the Navy. LeRoy is Ina Bonorden s son of Tripoli. They will also see friends relatives and other points of interest en route.
Mrs. L. L. Moeller hosted a Saturday afternoon birthday party for Timmy, celebrating his sixth birthday with ten playmates in attendance.
