Readlyn Children Narrow Escape in Flooded River
Three Kuethe children Paul 19 Lucille 17 and Edgar 15 escaped drowning while crossing the Wapsipinicon river three miles east of Readlyn. Their wagon and horses were swept away by the rising current after heavy rains. Helpers Bahe and Dierecks fetched aid as the youths clung to a river stump until rescue. Parts of the wagon were lost.
