The 13th annual Harvest Festival in Tripoli was interrupted by rain on Tuesday evening. Activities resumed with kiddie parades and show acts, drawing over 700 dollars in festival proceeds, including rides and contests. Flower show winners and parade results list numerous local participants and sponsors, with judge Don Leisinger of Waverly.
The Bremer County Board of Education proposes a 1969 budget of 171 045 with an estimated 25 000 unencumbered balance and 25 000 non tax income reducing the levy to 121 045. A taxpayer hearing is set for Tuesday August 6 at 8 00 p m in the Bremer County Superintendent's office in Waverly.
Mrs S A Maurer underwent surgery at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo following admission on Wednesday and operation on Friday.
Funeral services for Anna L. Tonne 73 will be Thursday at Faith United Church of Christ Tripoli with Rev V D Weidler officiating A family prayer will precede the 2 pm service Burial will be in the church cemetery She died at her farm home near Frederika Monday morning Survived by husband Fred J a daughter Mrs Edmond Thurm Waterloo a brother Wm C Meier rural Frederika and one granddaughter Anna L Tonne born April 22 1895 near Frederika to Wm and Mary Van Dorn Meier lifelong farm resident.
David Deterding, son of Mr and Mrs Les ter Deterding of Tripoli, arrived home Sunday after four years in the U S Air Force.
A chicken and ham supper will be served at St Pauls Lutheran church in Siegel on Thursday August 22. Proceeds support church activities and local programs.
Severe electrical storms raked northeast Iowa causing major flash flooding. Denver reports the highest rainfall at 14 3/4 inches, with Waverly 11 inches and Waterloo 8 1/2 inches. Waverly suffered bridge washouts and street flooding. 80 percent of southern Bremer bridges damaged and two deaths suspected. Otto Ruhs farm home destroyed by lightning. Tripoli sees water in North Town Park, forcing Royal United Shows troupe to evacuate. Fire and sewer crews worked through the night. pumps remained active into morning.
The Frederika budget totals 6100 for the year with 2850 offset by non tax income, leaving 3250 to be raised by taxation. A cash balance of 5356 is shown as of Jan 1 1968 with taxable valuation 227953 and agricultural lands 14883. Estimated taxes are 12 mills per 1000. The Tripoli Commercial Club plans a Monday picnic at South Park starting 6 00 p m. Charcoaled steaks top the menu. Members are asked to contact Ray Bunger by Monday morning for reservations.
The Frederika United Methodist Church hosts its annual flower show on Thursday July 25. The program starts at 2 p m with flowers due by 12 30 p m. A lunch following the program costs 50 cents.

Iowa Highway Patrol driver license examiners will be at Tripoli Town Hall on Saturday July 20 between 8 a.m. and noon. License renewals will be issued until noon, but written and driving tests end at 11 a.m. The examining team will not return to Tripoli until August 17.

Bremer County Board proposes expenditures of 1,799,643 for the fiscal year starting January 1, 1969. The plan raises taxes by 4 mills to 23.50 per 1000 on rural property and 11.50 on city and town property. An unencumbered balance of 129,002 and other income of 590,390 cut the tax need to 1,080,251. Hearing set August 14 at 10 a.m. in the Courthouse Waverly for taxpayer input.

Bremer county Extension Council proposes expenditures of 24,960 dollars for the fiscal year starting January 1, 1969. The entire amount will be raised by taxation as the service has no other income. A cash balance of 6,199.75 dollars was on hand January 1, 1968. A hearing on the budget is set for July 31 at 9:00 p.m. at the county Extension office in Tripoli.
A program for Tripoli Community School District girls entering grades 5 through 8 will run July 22 to August 16 except August 7–9. Sessions at the softball diamond run Monday to Friday 1 15 p m to 3 15 p m with grades 5–6 and 7–8 forming separate intra-group games.
Pack 32 and families are reminded of a picnic at 6 30 p m and a softball game at 7 30 p m in Alcock Park on Monday July 22. Each family brings their own supper and table service. Cub Scouts should bring gloves. Pop is furnished.
The Tripoli community board of education circulates petitions for a 140000 expansion to the junior-senior high building adding a shop art and electronics lab plus remodel of the existing shop for gymnastics and storage. The project would add over 9000 square feet and cost about 14.00 per square foot with state approval for fine arts coursework. September election targeted to approve the proposal.
