Bremer County Boards Propose 1933 Tax Levy Cut and Budget
The Bremer County board of supervisors proposed a 2.2 mill reduction in the 1933 total levy, from 40.2 mills in 1932 to 38 mills. The plan drops the optional secondary road maintenance levy, suspends county fair grounds and orphans' home levy, and trims the emergency fund to 2 mills and state insane to 3 of a mill. The total proposed budget is 245,300 dollars, with a projected tax take down by 13,229. Levies kept from 1932 include general 6 mills, poor fund 3, county insane 1.5, county school 1, tuberculosis eradication 3, road construction 4.5, and mandatory road maintenance 1.5. It also adds a court expense fund to 1 mill and soldiers relief to 0.7 mill. A public hearing is set for August 4, and estimated 1933 taxes total allocations for general 42,000, court 6,800, poor 20,600, state insane 2,000, county insane 10,300, county school 6,000, soldiers’ relief 4,800, tuberculosis 20,600, emergency 13,700, road construction 13,700, mandatory maintenance 7% mills and 24% mills totaling 34,500 to 40,000.
