Benefit Bridge Party Draws Legion Auxiliary Members
The American Legion Auxiliary held a well attended benefit bridge party at the Legion hall. Prizes went to E. A. Carstensen for high score and Mrs. Chas. Hoyt for second. Admission charged a package of cigarettes. sixty nine packages and one deck of cards were collected. Earl Kuker won the blanket, sold hot dish holder chances funded junior members, and the cigarette proceeds will be mailed to Veterans hospitals in Marshalltown and Knoxville.

City officials eye diesel engines for power plant
Last week councilmen W A Watkins Harry Hicks and C Ducker with city supervisor W Thorson visited Milwaukee to inspect diesel engines for the electric power plant. Two engines costing about 115000 would be installed and expected to pay for themselves in a few years by saving the current more than 2000 dollars monthly. Only roof modifications would be needed. A resolution to buy them will be published soon.

Mrs Spohr Dies at 81 After Long Waterloo Life
Mrs. Fred H. Spohr, 81, resident of Waterloo since 1873, died Wednesday January 18 at her home from infirmities of old age. Born March 15, 1852 in Epstard Germany, she and Fred H. Spohr married in 1874 and celebrated their 59th anniversary January 7. Survived by her husband, two sons F. W. Spohr and H. H. Spohr of Waterloo, and one granddaughter of Waterloo. Services were held at St. Paul Lutheran Church Saturday at two o'clock with Rev. R. C. Schlueter officiating. burial in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery.
