Readlyn Couple Celebrates Golden Wedding Anniversary
Readlyn special report: Christ Brockman and Emma Peters marked fifty years of marriage with a January 25 event at their Readlyn home. A noon family dinner featured bronze-gold decor and a wedding cake from their children. Rev. C Meyer offered remarks, hymns were sung, and a mock wedding entertained guests. The couple, who wed January 25 1883 near Readlyn, have two sons, Edward and William. They arrived in Readlyn 23 years ago and remain in good health as friends and relatives joined in the celebration. An 11 o'clock lunch closed the day with many visitors from Addison Illinois and nearby towns conveying warm wishes.

Wm. Schroeder age 66 farmer from Frederika township died suddenly Monday while en route by car to Iowa City for medical care. Born August 28, 1866 in Germany, he spent most of his life farming. Survived by four children Will Richard Mrs John Bierman and Mrs Wm Eickhoff. Funeral Thursday at 1 pm at St Peters Evangelical church with Rev Thomas officiating. Burial in Evangelical cemetery north of town.

Fred C Schultz, 66, lifelong resident and businessman in Tripoli, died at his home February 1 after a yearlong illness. Born June 25, 1866 in Maxfield township, he married Mary Buesing in 1895 and had two sons Alfred and Lawrence. He ran a local feed mill since 1920, was active in civic affairs, and attended St Peter's Evangelical church. Surviving: widow, two sons, one grandson, four sisters, three brothers. Funeral arrangements incomplete.

Mail service on the Sumner Waverly line will be discontinued on Monday February 6 and replaced by a star route truck. The route will depart Oelwein at 8 30 am passing Westgate Sumner Tripoli Bremer to Waverly by 10 30 am with Tripoli arrival near 10 00 am. Return from Waverly leaves about 4 15 pm after collecting Waterloo mail, returning via the same route.

West Union Fayette county officials say Ernest Heller 30 of Westgate will be taken to Oelve for arraignment in superior court on a charge of murdering Ashley Downing a wealthy farmer on January 4 near the Downing farm. Stains on his clothing were found and he was questioned briefly before a second custody on January 20. He denies knowledge of the crime.

Truck Kills Mrs Belknap's Father in Snowstorm
A. A. Finch, 75, father of Mrs. A. A. Belknap of this city, was fatally injured Thursday evening when struck by a livestock rack on a livestock truck near Alpha during a snowstorm. He died about 90 minutes later. The truck, driven by Steven Matlock and owned by Willard Trewin, was deemed an unavoidable accident. Funeral services were held in Alpha Sunday.

Funeral services for Edward H. Lockwood Fayette farmer and livestock dealer were held Sunday in Fayette. Died Thursday after a five week illness at age 80. Born Oran September 25 1854 he taught in Bremer and Fayette counties before farming. He married Mary Jane Green in 1878 at Fairbank and moved to Fayette in 1899. Surviving are widow seven daughters two sons and several siblings.

Edward Keller former Garretson City Treasurer for 37 years died at his Garretson home from a stroke suffered a day earlier. He was 80, a half brother of the late Mrs. Charles Gors, and his wife had died five years ago. He is survived by an adopted daughter, Mrs. C. F. Logeman.
