The nonpartisan Committee for Economic Development proposes reforms to finance campaigns and widen voter participation. It urges income tax credits for donors, full disclosure of contributions, and reduced campaign costs to lessen undue influence and boost public trust.
The Tripoli Nursing Home follows a State Department of Health flu epidemic advisory calling for limited visitors. Administrator Ruby Greenlees urges only residents’ immediate family in good health to visit to prevent outbreak. No residents are ill now. restrictions will lift after the epidemic ends. Cards and letters are encouraged. A sign is posted on the door.
The January meeting shifts from the first Wednesday to January 8 due to the New Year holiday. A potluck supper starts at 6 00 PM followed by the meeting and card games.
Funeral services are planned Friday at 2 p m at St Pauls United Church of Christ Denver for Effie Repp 87 who died after a fire at her home 341 East Main. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery. Repp a former Janesville resident active in Red Cross Gray Ladies leaves six children 18 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Her husband died in 1956.
The Tripoli Jaycees announce their annual tree pickup on Sunday January 5 at 1:00 p m. Meet at Ambrose Oil Station to collect trees. Residents should place their trees at the curb in front of their homes.
The 1967 Iowa legislature created the Law Enforcement Academy at Camp Dodge and tasked its director with minimum recruitment standards. Seven rules set age limits 21 to 60, license, literacy, moral character, and no conscientious objector status. Additional rules cover education and fitness. State Safety Commissioner Jack Fulton calls the adoption a major step toward uniform, improved law enforcement statewide.
The Music Mothers will meet January 8 at 8 p m in the high school home economics room.

In 1968 the Bremer County Extension Service celebrated its 50th anniversary with an open house and expanded programs. Highlights include soil survey distributions, multi county meetings, Dairy Herd Improvement work, 4-H activities with 586 members, a county fair with record entries, and a July rainfall cleanup effort broadcast by Waverly radio. The staff list features Dale Shires, Pearl Pardee, Kermit Hildahl, Janet Asmus, and Gloria Bruns under the Extension Council led by Marvin Redies.
The Bremer county Extension service invites farm couples to enroll in a farm and home management school on Thursday Jan 9 and 16. Pre registration by Jan 7 for sessions 9 45 a m to 3 30 p m at the Extension office Tripoli. The first year of a three year series features economic principles goal setting and record keeping with specialists Hatford Shires Pardee Haas Connelly and others guiding the program.
