Iowa traffic toll falls to 68 in November but officials warn 20 lives could have been saved with seat belts. Clayton county saw seven deaths including a six-member family in a north Elkader crash. Data show 33 crashes involved unbelted riders and 47 belted drivers survived.

Citizenship Short Course Set For Feb 16 22

National 4-H centers a week long citizenship short course in Washington DC for young adults ages 18 to 25. Delegates cover about 70 dollars for registration lodging meals and travel. Iowa state university Ames coordinates with early reservations due before January 1.

Winter Ed Program to Reach 21 Area VII Communities

Twenty-one Area VII communities will start a winter adult education program through Hawk Eye Institute of Technology in late January. The districts include Allison-Bristow, Cedar Falls, Clarksville, Denver, Dysart Geneseo, Dike, East Buchanan, Grundy Center, Hudson, Independence, Jesup, La Porte City, Nashua, North Tama County, Parkersburg, Reinbeck, Sumner, Tripoli, Waterloo, Waverly Shell Rock, and Wapsie Valley. Over 3,000 people are expected to participate. There are about 164 courses outside Waterloo, 74 in Waterloo, and about 30 in Cedar Falls.

49 Licensed in Saturday Iowa exam session at Town Hall

A total of 49 persons were served by the Iowa Highway license examining team during their morning session Saturday at the Town Hall. There were 34 operator licenses issued, two chauffeur licenses issued and three instruction permits. The team also gave 10 written tests. The license examining team will return to the Tripoli Town Hall on Saturday morning, Jan. 18.
