Two paving projects in Bremer County and a Bremer Fayette joint project drew bids on Tuesday January 7. High Surfacers of New Hampton bid 149222.92 for 4.5 miles on Pinhook Road and Everds Bros. Construction of Algona bid 77333.0 for the joint project from the southeast corner of Bremer County north to Bremer Westgate. Work dates set for May and June start with completion by October 18. Bremer County also readies two repaving jobs for February 11. The 1 2 mile Stockwell Bridge to Waverly and the 2.6 mile Wolf Hatch Road to Laird’s. Also note the 8th annual turtle feed event Friday January 10 at VFW Post Home. Doors open 4 p m and supper starts 6 30 p m Admission 2 50.”

The Iowa Department of Social Services released November figures for Bremer County. Old age assistance covered 139 cases totaling 15 566 with 3 new and 6 closed. Aid to dependent children had 42 cases aiding 84 people with 7 806 total and 1 new plus 5 closures. Blind aid had 2 cases 350. disabled aid 7 cases 526. Overall 190 welfare cases benefiting 332 people with total payments 24 248.

Tri poli to host eight team wrestling tourney Saturday
Tripoli Community schools will host an eight team invitational wrestling tournament in the high school gym Saturday with three sessions. First at 9:00 a.m., second at 2:00 p.m., and consolation at 7:00 p.m. Championship matches begin at 8:00 p.m. Teams include Denver Greene Janesville Nashua Plainfield Tripoli Turkey Valley and Wapsie Valley. Tripoli high varsity wrestlers lost 26 to 21 to Plainfield last Friday night.
