Planning for a Bremer County Bicentennial celebration is formed for Tripoli on June 12 1976 from 10 a.m. to evening hours. The event aims to involve all communities within Bremer County and spans June 12 to 17 with a focus on countywide activities.
The Frederika Fire Department logged twenty one fire calls in 1975 with two city calls. They responded to two car fires three fires an emergency call an airplane crash and several major building fires. The airplane crash caused a death and injuries. Property damage reached about fifty thousand dollars. The department added one new truck and an eight hour fire aid course. Twenty two firefighters worked three hundred seventy man hours at fires. Frederika firefighters received twenty five year pins for Leo Bahlmann Keith J Frederic Rewoldt and Nee Bergmann. They also received 25 year pins from the Iowa State Association.
Frederika chairmen urge door to door solicitation Sunday March 22 by volunteers from the Heart Association and Jaycee Ettes to raise funds locally. Tripoli volunteers will share information about heart disease and collect donations while Westward Ho Wagon aids singing with props. Community groups may run food stands at the March 26 27 show at Oli High School Gymnasium with Leon Kirchhoff coordinating.
Gary Bovera of Waverly was named chairman of the educational and fundraising Cancer Crusade to be conducted across Bremer County in April. Rev. V. D. Weidler of Tripoli, chair of the Bremer County American Cancer Society, announced plans to reach every adult with cancer information for the 1976 Crusade. Bovera, Plainfield native, is a Wartburg and Iowa alumnus who practiced law in Waterloo before moving to Waverly in 1973. He opened a law office at 95 E. Bremer in Waverly.
Auctioneer Bud Mennenga of Clarksville announces a public sale for Jim Hyde on Saturday February 28 at the Jim Hyde farm located one mile east of Tripoli on the blacktop and one mile south. The auction features 37 head of livestock a full line of farming machinery and miscellaneous items. The sale bill will appear in next week's issue.
Funeral services for Frank J. Holmes 88 of Waterloo will be held Thursday Feb 19 at 1 50 in the chapel and 2 p m at Faith United Church of Christ with Rev Keith Selberg officiating Burial will be in the church cemetery Pall bearers are Clarence Meier Clarence Boeckman Herbert Sievers Larry Shannon Wayne Shannon and Roger Jesse Mr Holmes died Monday Feb 16 at Allen hospital Waterloo where he had been six days He was born Oct 6 1887 and married Clara Moeller He is survived by his wife and two daughters Mrs Margaret Shannon Waterloo and Mrs Dorothy Jesse Littleton a half sister Mrs Bertha Seavey and five grandchildren He was a retired painter and was living in Waterloo at the time of his death.
Tripoli Area Housing Corp will hold its annual meeting on Monday February 23 at 7 30 p m in city hall Two directors will be elected to the board along with any other business presented The firm operates Sunnyside Apartments a five unit complex on Second Street S W
Tripoli Panthers beat Turkey Valley 38 to 30 on Friday night to move to six wins and seven losses in conference play. The team, coached by Dave Ray, eyes a finish around .500 with one conference game left at Jesup.
Twenty two members attended the Tripoli Commercial Club dinner in city hall. Robert Seefeld introduced as new member launching Seefeld Sales offering business and home office equipment. The group discussed post bank promotions and a potluck athletic banquet for April 3. Ladies night planned for March meeting.
Tripoli high matmen won the class 1-A sectional wrestling tournament concluding Thursday night finishing with nine qualifiers for district. The Panthers totaled 14914 points with five champions and four consolation winners among nine schools. Champions were Perry Sauerbrei 98 pounds Steve Struck 112 Ron Pint 119 Jeff Sanderson 185 and Don Petersen heavyweight. Consolations: Dale Shonka 105 Tim Phelps at Bowl.
Ralph Bolte sells his farm and hosts a closing out sale of farming machinery on Saturday February 21 at noon. The event, four miles west of Tripoli on highway 93 and nearby roads, features a full line of equipment in well kept, some like new condition. Arnold Hexom is the auctioneer with American Savings Bank as clerk. terms are standard. A complete item list appears elsewhere in this issue.
Trioli business leaders schedule annual cake day at City Hall on Saturday February 28. The event runs from morning until 3 30 p m offering free pancakes and coffee to shoppers and local retailers.
Tripoli High School Music Department presents an annual Pops concert Wednesday at 7 30 p m in the gymnasium. The bands and groups will perform solos and skits with the choir and jazz band. Admission is free and the public is invited. Pancake breakfast follows as a token of appreciation from local businesses. Mrs Arnold Stromer and Mrs Roger Boeckmann recently had surgery at Allen Hospital in Waterloo and are to return home later this week.
Funeral services for Stanley E. Gehrke 58 of Readlyn were held at St. Pauls Lutheran Church Readlyn with burial in the church cemetery. He was born September 29 1917 and died February 11. Survived by wife Helen son Jerry of Cedar Falls daughters Sandra Trzaskos Patricia Knudson and Pamela Brickman all of Denver four grandchildren.
Tripoli Mayor Ed Bennett announces the council will publish an agenda of proposed business before each regular meeting to boost taxpayer involvement. Taxpayers may contact the city clerk to ensure items of concern appear on the agenda and be present for discussion. The agenda will appear in the Wednesday issue before monthly meetings on the first Monday.
A World Day of Prayer service sponsored by Faith United Church of Christ and Grace Lutheran Church will be held at Faith Church on Friday evening March 5 at 7 30 p m. The theme is Education For All of Life and the public is invited.
Frederika Bicentennial Committee presents Frederika Follies a Sunday February 29 show at the Feuchtwanger Shop Frederika with two performances at 2 00 p m and 7 30 p m featuring dances music and comedy from the eras of the gay nineties roaring twenties nifty fifties the wild west and a patriotic tribute Proceeds support a new community building in Frederika Tickets available from local organizers.
