On Thursday night February 19 Tripoli high school teams debate El kader in Elkader and Waukon at home with the other Tripoli team. The Charleston congressional church venue hosts the event at 8 pm with judges Prof. O'Neil Mr. Smith and Supt Brause. A small admission is charged and a large crowd is expected.

Friday schedule starts 7 30 p m Denver versus Waverly 8 30 Tripoli versus Plainfield 9 30 Sumner versus Janesville Frederika has a bye and will meet the Saturday morning winner. The 11 o clock Saturday match determines the finalists for the final game Saturday night.
Siegel Special report describes a Sunday gathering hosted by Mr and Mrs Carl Schwartz to honor Mrs Schwartz on her birthday. Attendees include Gustave Buls, Tegtmeyers, Henning, Lohman, Qua de family, Soldwich family, Wm Mueller and family, A Schnider and Mildred, Louis Schwartz and family, Gustav Schwemm and family from Waverly and Denver.
Louis Gaede 77 longtime Dayton township and Tripoli resident died at home Saturday morning February 14 after a cancer illness. Born June 19 1853 in Large Woods Mecklenburg Germany he immigrated to the United States and later Bremer county lived on a farm in Dayton township for 34 years moving to Tripoli in 1911 with his family. Surviving are his widow four sons Louis Emil Herman Henry two daughters Mary Koop Ida one sister 18 grandchildren and many friends. Funeral services were Tuesday at St Peters Evangelical church with Rev. K K Koehler officiating burial in the church cemetery north of town where a daughter Bertha is buried.
At the annual meeting and election of Tripoli Commercial Club officers held Monday evening all old officers were re elected for another year. President Lee O Peacock. Vice President W H Meier. Directors B F Mors A A Belknap and C C Otterstetter. A good size crowd attended and lunch followed.
Frederika Special reports the Social Hour Society held a valentine party in church parlors on Wednesday afternoon and evening. A program of contests games and puzzles fit the day with Cupid decorations and valentines as prizes. Luncheon served to 91 persons raising 18.35 dollars in proceeds.
Every Thursday a roller skating session will be held at the Tripoli Opera House. The note promises good skates and a smooth floor for skaters.
Miss Leona Kuker daughter of Mr and Mrs W D Kuker southwest of Tripoli married Henry C Heine son of Henry F Heine Bremer at St Pauls Lutheran Church Warren Township The ceremony officiated by Rev E Melcher Best men were Nick Schumacher and Emil Heine maid of honor Eleonora Kuker bridesmaid Lavera Heine Flower girls Bernice and Marion Harmening The couple hosted about thirty five families at a reception then a five o'clock dinner The newlyweds will reside on a Bremer farm with the groom's father
The Ladies' Aid of the Congregational church held its regular meeting at the church with a picnic supper for members and families. Mrs. F W Hale was the honored guest as the party also served as a farewell for Mr and Mrs Hale, who were absent due to illness. Their daughters Mrs G W Hawkins of Des Moines and Mrs W W Fye of Cedar Rapids attended as guests.
Neighbors and friends hosted a farewell gathering for Mr and Mrs Westendorf last Friday at their home. The couple, after two years on the Mrs H Lohman farm, are moving to a new farm near Readlyn bought by Mr Westendorf. Guests supplied lunch later in the evening.
The Legion Auxiliary will host a benefit tea Friday from 2 30 to 5 00 pm with talks by Mrs Bernard Dubbert and Mrs Bert Morf. Refreshments will be charged. Date is February 20. All ladies are invited to attend.
Mrs. Frank Johnson travels from Frederika to Grand Meadow Minnesota after the sudden death of her brother Louis Nelson, a World War service member. Her son Gaylord Johnson accompanied her to Grand Meadow and back home.
A resident thanks the Tripoli Fire Department for assistance in extinguishing a fire at their home last Saturday morning. The note praises prompt attention and effective response by the firefighters.
A farewell party for the Struck family was hosted at the Ernest Struck home on Wednesday evening. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Henry Henning and daughter LaVera, along with numerous local residents and families. The gathering featured a 500 card game with Mrs. Henry Henning winning high and Mrs. Harry Lindenore taking low.
Music and visiting furnished the diversion at a party given by Mrs. Fred Platte Jr at her Readlyn home last Sunday evening. Refreshments were served. Guests included Mr and Mrs Arthur Geweke and sons Edwin and Arthur Jr from near Potter Siding. Mr and Mrs Henry Gade and son Lawrence from near Readlyn. and Theodore Meier and Elmer Rohrssen from Denver.
A special school election last Wednesday produced a narrow seven vote majority in favor of a bond proposal. Of 592 total ballots, 299 voted for the bonds and 292 against, with one spoiled ballot. The measure sought 55 000 dollars to build a schoolhouse and secure a site for the Independent School District of Tripoli Bremer County Iowa.
Royal Neighbor Lodge members hosted a farewell party for Mrs. F. W. Hale at Mrs. Joe Lien’s home on South Main Street. About twenty four members attended with games and stunts as entertainment and a lunch served by Mesdams Goodenbour Sien Johnson and Ereshman. Oracle Millie Goodenbour presented a remembrance as Mrs. Hale, an early member, departs the community with best wishes for her future.
A Crane Creek farmer reports a Thursday evening theft of chickens valued at 10.55 dollars, sold in Tripoli, with the thief taking the farmer’s horse and buggy to transport the birds before returning them. The farmer and family were away during the incident.
Mr and Mrs John Berlin were honored Friday February 18 at their home on a 35th wedding anniversary surprise. Attendees included their son John Berlin Jr and wife Ruth Sarah and Naomi, daughter Mrs Fred Doepke with husband and daughters Irene Leota and Helen, Mr and Mrs F D Kimball and son Frank, Mr and Mrs P L Crittenden and son James. Cards and visiting followed by lunch.
Chester Truner of Fayette and Alice Watson of Aurora both seek licenses, as do Paul Hartman of Fairbank and Norma Hagenow of Readlyn, Lavern Steege of Waterloo and Helen Buss of Denver, Henry Heine of Waverly and Leona Rucker of Tripoli, Earl Bruner of Janesville and Arlene Bennett of Janesville.
In a three day Justice Court trial, the case of W G Nafus versus Henry Peters ended in a jury disagreement and the panel was discharged. Plaintiff sought to remove defendant from the farm under a three year lease. defense claimed poor farming. A new trial is expected late February. Leonard FE Stacey pleaded guilty to an attempted robbery in Waterloo and was sentenced to three months in county jail. two accomplices received four months. Stacey’s letter hinted at plans to obtain money to recover a pawned dress.
Word reached downtown last Tuesday morning that Rev P J Connolly had died after a sudden stroke of apoplexy. Friends were surprised as he seemed well on Monday night and doctors and nurses at the hospital had no warning. A nurse found him unconscious around 1:30 AM and he passed away moments later.
New White Swan Bakery owners Clarence Nissen of this city and P F Wilharm of Sumner were told to vacate last week amid objections from J L McClure that the bakery next to his hotel creates noise and odors. It is unclear if the bakers will relocate or seek to renew their lease. The bakery was operating well and had good patronage before the dispute.
Shorty Rhine owner of the Tourist Cafe and his partner Siegfried Miller were fined 50 and 20 dollars plus costs after pleading guilty to intoxication on Sunday evening. A crowd gathered as Marshal Mason intervened, locking the cafe, and Leland Stacey was ejected during a dispute. They appeared before Mayor Ocinsup the next morning.
Clarence J Albright son of Mrs Fred Albright will speak at the high school auditorium on Thursday February 26 accompanied by his photographs. A zoologist with Field Museum Chicago he has traveled in Africa and many local friends welcome his return and recall his notable exploits in wildlife work.
Mrs. M N Gernsey returned last week with her car stolen and left near the Chicago outskirts by three youths. The vehicle appears undamaged and she drove sixty miles to Clifton Illinois to visit her husband's parents before...
