Mr and Mrs Leonard Buhrow marked 25 years of marriage and their son Alfred’s sixth anniversary with a Friday afternoon gathering at their Williamstown home. Relatives from Waterloo Readlyn Siegel Bremer and nearby communities joined a two part celebration with silver decor a dinner cake from Readlyn and a purse gift. An address by Revarnaur capped a day of games and well wishes as guests departed.
In honor of Louis Everding’s 31st birthday the Everding household hosted a Sunday evening party at their south Main Street home. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Pete Hinrichs and several relatives from Readlyn, Denver, and the surrounding area. The event featured cards, visiting, and a luncheon served by the hostess.
New Hampton high school second team and its junior high squad meet Tripoli teams on the home floor next Monday. The games cap the home-season schedule, with the state sectional tournament at Waverly a few days later the last chance to see this year’s squad in action.
Robert Moore of West Branch Iowa will headline a Farmers Union meeting in Oran Thursday evening February 26. The program includes tables showing the cost of farm products over the past three years.
Miss Arelene Bennett and Earl H Briner both of Janesville Iowa were married at the bride's mother's home in Janesville on February 14 at seven o'clock Rev Frank Shaffer officiated. The bride is daughter of Mrs Joe Bennett and the groom son of Mrs Maude Briner. They will reside in Janesville. City election in Janesville looms with all current councillors up for re election and possible mayoral opposition over city expenses and improvements.
Breeze Hadin and Clint Blake were arrested by Sheriff Sager Sunday evening about four miles east on No 10 when their car left the road. They were found intoxicated and, though previously on parole, it is believed they will now serve prior sentences from earlier arrests.
Henry Korte, 82, living alone, was found unconscious in his room here. Neighbors noted his absence and discovered he had suffered a paralysis stroke. he remains unconscious with little hope of recovery.
A deputy collector of internal revenue will be at City Hall on Thursday and Friday to assist taxpayers with income tax returns. Changes in Gamble store management include John Locke being promoted to Charles City and Ralph Bartels returning to manage in Sumner. Locals note a Denmark telegram about a mother’s health, anniversary celebrations near the city, Waverly baseball club naming William Ducker manager and Ed Kohlmann secretary.
Waverly hosts the state sectional basketball tournament from March 5 to 7 with two classes. Tripoli is in class B and draws a first round bye. Thursday features Allison versus Finchford, Waverly versus Greene, and Denver versus Frederika followed by Friday and Saturday matchups culminating in a final series of winners.
In a triangular sectional debate, Tripoli high school tied for second with Elkader after Waukon won with 47 points. Elkader and Tripoli each claimed one win as Waukon defeated Elkader in Waukon and Tripoli defeated Waukon to reach the tie.
A small roof fire occurred at the schoolhouse Monday around eleven. Mrs. A W Buechele noticed smoke by the east chimney and alerted. Firemen arrived quickly and extinguished the blaze with chemicals. Damage was slight, with a small hole near the chimney.
Waverly defeats Janesville 26 to 22 to claim Bremer county tournament in Sumner. L Carpenter and Plowing top scorers with 11 each for Waverly and Janesville respectively. Frederika takes consolation with 38 to 12 over Plainfield. Previous rounds saw Waverly 26 15 Denver 28 12 Sumner 12 and Janesville 32 11 Frederika 24 12 Plainfield 22 38.
Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Nieman and son Robert depart Readlyn after twelve years at Scheve farm to occupy the Mrs. Fred Strottman farm, three miles south and two east of Tripoli. Neighbors gave a farewell party February 15. The L. Hoppenworth family also moved to the Scheve farm.
Katherine Marie Sophia Buhr Becker, a pioneer resident of Bremer county, died February 19 at the home of her daughter in Dayton township after a paralytic stroke on February 4. Born January 26, 1860 in Hagen Hanover Germany, she immigrated with her family to America in 1869, settled near Elgin Illinois, then moved to Bremer county Iowa. She married Conrad Becker March 18 1881 and lived on a farm near Tripoli for 48 years, later retiring to Tripoli and then living with her children. Survived by her husband six daughters and four sons, 24 grandchildren and three great grandchildren, funeral from the home of Fred Helms to St Pauls Evangelical church Buck Creek. Burial in St Pauls.
A town hall caucus on Monday nominated Louis Rohrssen for a three year term as school director. Rohrssen was the sole candidate and seeks re election with strong attendance and no opposition expected in the upcoming vote.
A group of relatives and friends surprised Mr. and Mrs. Will Grebien Tuesday evening to celebrate their twentieth wedding anniversary. The gathering included many families and ended with a lunch from well filled baskets. Others attending included Mr. and Mrs. John Bahlman and families, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Bahlman and families, Mr. and Mrs. Will Bierman and families, and Rev. Gerlach and family. Frank Koch visited Nashua and Mrs. Mary Boerschal.
Mrs. J. F. Clark aged 29 of Waterloo was killed and Mrs. Ernest Jackson seriously injured in a Sunday morning crash on highway 218 near Waverly. A coroner's jury ruled an unavoidable accident and placed no blame. Mrs. Clark left a twelve year old daughter. funeral held in Clarksville.
Church notes announce Lent observations at St John’s Lutheran with passion scripture and services. Passion service Friday at 7 30 PM in German and Sunday at 10 30 AM in English, Sunday school at 9 30, Luther League Sunday 7 30, choir practice Thursday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Berlin observed their 48th anniversary with an anniversary supper at their home on Sunday February 22. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Koeneke of Waterloo Mr. and Mrs. John Berlin Sr Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Berlin Jr and daughters Naomi Sarah and Ruth Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Doepke and children Helen Leota and Irene and Mrs. Louis Kuker.
Mrs Dick Kirchhoff celebrated her birthday with a Wednesday evening gathering. Guests included Mr and Mrs Fred Lohmann Miss Adela and Esther Lohmann Mr and Mrs August Frederick and daughter Nadean Mr and Mrs Henry Spier and daughters Malinda Elsie and son Stanley Mr and Mrs Louie Kelso and sons Mr and Mrs Will Harmanning Mr and Mrs Ferdinand Carsten Mr and Mrs Louie Schwartz and son Mr and Mrs Kieth Ferson and daughter Wilma Miss Adela Koch Mr and Mrs Carl Kirchoff and sons and Mr and Mrs Ervin Kirchoff. Later a luncheon was served by Mrs Dick Kirchoff.
A daughter was born to Mr and Mrs Elam Hill one mile east of town on Friday February th.

The Congregational Church holds Sunday School at 10:00 and Morning Worship at 11:00 with Mr. Seeger delivering the message. The Ladies Aid meets in the church basement on Thursday, hosted by Mrs. N. R. Ambrose and Mrs. H. J. Hankner, and members answer roll call with household hints.
