On February 18 Tripoli hosts a free pancake and sausage day from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the town hall. Sponsored by local businesses as a “thank you” to customers, the event offers pancakes for all ages and aims to celebrate the trading season.
The Bremer County Extension Service hosts a pest and insect control meeting at Tripoli Community School on Monday February 22 at 7 30 to 9 30 p.m. Kay Connelly Wat loo Area Extension Crop Specialist is the featured speaker and the event is free and open to all interested residents.
The January dairy data shows 14.3 percent of cows and 17.4 percent of cows were dry. Eighty eight herds used Co-8 meters in January. Regional records include 23 DHI records totaling 550 pounds fat for three-year cows and 500 pounds fat for two-year cows. several named individuals and farms appear in the tally.
The Frederika Luther League holds a bake sale on Saturday February 20 at 9 o clock in the Frederika Town Hall Coffee and rolls will be served.
Mr and Mrs H L Harms and Mrs Martha Biermann attended the open house at Fredericksburg E and R Church Sunday afternoon honoring Mr and Mrs Leo Drape on their 50th wedding anniversary.
Paul A. Magnall, son of Dr. and Mrs. L. J. Magnall, earns a Dean's List honor for the fall semester at LaCrosse State University in LaCrosse Wisconsin. The recognition highlights academic achievement by the LaCrosse State student.
Pastor Glenn Kappelmann presented a paper titled The Father of the Jews and the Apostle to the Gentiles Recent Interpretations of Romans 4 to the Waterloo Conference Pastors Institute at Redeemer Lutheran Church Waverly on February 16. The day featured Dr Duane Priebe Wartburg Theological Seminary Dubuque as the other speaker. The Institute prepared pastors for the forthcoming Lenten season.
Tripoli residents are urged by Mayor Ed Bennett to leave a faucet running to prevent frozen pipes during extended cold weather. The mayor says the next quarter water billing will be charged at the same rate as the previous quarter to offset the increased usage.
Funeral rites for Alfred Buls 71 were held Monday at St John Lutheran Frederika. He died Friday at Allen Memorial Waterloo after a stroke. He was a retired farmer and tiling contractor, survived by wife Lulu, son Arlen, daughter Florence, two stepdaughters, one stepson, 13 grandchildren and six brothers. Burial at church cemetery. Rev. Gies officiated. Casket bearers named.
Mr and Mrs Ted Olmstead attended the Freshman capping tea for the Allen Memorial School of Nursing class at Dack Hall Friday. Their daughter Kathy was a member of the class.

Tripoli girls fall to Fredericksburg 72 66 as turnovers in the final period give the Panthers a six point edge. Braun 24 Diemer 26 Weidler 22 lead Fredericksburg while Barb Wente 32 Judy Ludwig 25 pace Tripoli. Denver 71 Hudson 54 in the other Monday game.
Tripoli wrestlers won the class A sectional at Tripoli February 10 11 with seven advancing to the district meet February 19 20 at Conrad. Champions included Blasberg Gienau Garner Zander Kuecker Hildebrandt Pint runner up. other schools listed multiple qualifiers and first round pairings for twelve weight classes outlined.
Rev. Erich Dornbusch H H Hoppenworth Henry Bonarden and Elmer Schneider attended the ALCM Institute in Wartburg Waverly on Friday. Dornbusch has attended every meeting in the institute's 26 year history, one of five to do so.
Action schedule lists Denver versus South Winneshiek at 6 30 p m and Fredericksburg versus Dike at 8 p m on Saturday February 20 with consolation and championship games at 6 30 and 8 p m respectively.
Bremer County ASC announces a 20 percent feed grain set aside with a March 1 to April 9 signup period. Participants maintain their conserving base and can plant remaining cropland as they choose, except for quotas on tobacco and sugar cane. Preliminary payments start after July 1 andparticipation enables loans on corn and grain sorghum.
Iowa Highway Patrol driver license examining team is scheduled for Saturday morning February 20 in the town hall from 8 a.m. to noon. Renewals will be issued until noon, while written and driving tests run only until 11 a.m. Examiners will not return to Tripoli until March 20.
Craig Schumacher, 14 months, was sent to West Union hospital then Iowa City after his hands touched a 220 V fuse box. He returned home with burns but no other effects. The incident occurred in Waucoma while the family prepared to move, with Craig staying with his grandparents in Tripoli over the weekend.
The Unified Dairy Herd Improvement Co-op held its annual meeting on February 10 at Tripoli Town Hall. Dallas Rathe and Louis Gitch joined the board, LaVerne Schumacher of Readlyn was elected president, Gitch became vice president, and Harold Mueller of Waverly was re elected secretary. Merl Lillibridge of Plainfield received a 20 year service plaque from Richard Reynolds as retiring president.
Clara Keding 97 died February 10 at Sunrise Guest Home Fredericksburg. Funeral Saturday at Faith United Church of Christ with Rev Keith Sel berg officiating. Burial in church cemetery. Survivors include two daughters and two sons plus grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Sophia L. Kruse, 82, were held Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Glenn Kappelmann officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Casket bearers were Clarence Westendorf, Arthur Lampe, Clarence Bahlmann, Herman Mueller, Leslie Peters, and Stanley Buhrow. Survivors include one daughter, two grandchildren, and three sisters. Born July 8, 1888, she died Sunday, February 14.
Navy Petty Officer Third Class Duane L. Bearman son of Mrs. Lucille Bearman of Frederika Iowa has completed Aircraft Maintenance Course at Naval Air Station Lemoore California. Bearman a 1967 graduate of Tripoli Community High School.
Harlan Peterson was elected President of the Willow Run Country Club Board at a February 11 re organization meeting following the annual membership gathering. Dr. E. H. Stumme is the new vice president with Robert Ehrhardt as secretary and John Scott as treasurer for the coming year.
Seventy two Wartburg College students started their 1971 Winter Term teaching. In Tripoli assignments Judy Feine Rushford Minn English Jean LaRue Manchester English and Journalism Terry Luloff Denver mathematics John Pearson LaPorte City physical education Gregory Slager Cedar Rapids biology Lyle Slatten Barnum physics chemistry general science. Tripoli graduates Dave Buchholz Waverly physical education Columbus Waterloo and Diane Nacke Charles City elementary will also teach there.

Farm management specialist Phil Hufford will discuss advantages and disadvantages of various setups including joint operations, partnerships, leases, and income sharing. Pre registration by February 23 is requested via the Extension Office.
