The financial report details a December 31, 04 closing balance, debt reductions, and payments in 1970 and projected for 1971. General fund receipts total 92,891.99 with disbursements 92,438.65. opening cash 10,381.90 closing 10,835.24. Utility fund receipts 22,006.30 expenses 22,417.08. utility balance January 1 1,783.79. Taxable valuation rises to 1,525,495 while agricultural lands total 80,999. moneys and credits amount to 292,894.
Community prayer service scheduled for March 5 at Grace Lutheran Church in Tripoli starting at 8:00 p.m. Faith United Church of Christ and Grace Lutheran collaborate in planning with both congregations participating. Coffee and cookies to follow. open to all residents.
The Jaycee-Ettes plan a March 1 meeting at 7 30 PM at the VFW home. Sharon Sprague will host, and constitution changes will be voted on during the gathering.
February is American Heart Month and the Tripoli Jaycee tttes will run a heart fund drive February 27 28 in Bremer County in support of the Heart Association. Donations aid research to fight heart attacks strokes rheumatic fever high blood pressure and inborn heart defects.
The Iowa Employment Security Commission reports more than three million dollars in unemployment insurance payments for December. Nationwide 61,284 weeks of unemployment totaled 3,203,847.76 dollars. Bremer County contributed 46,978.57 dollars for 891 weeks of unemployment.
The Senior Citizens of the Tri pol i area meet Wednesday March 3 with a 6 pm pot luck supper. It marks the organization’s 4th anniversary and the committee plans entertainment with ecards to follow.
Happel's Food Market team led Readlyn to top honors in the city bowling tournament. Steven Kerr, a cast member from Tripoli and a junior art major, stars in the opera Carmen opening at Mankato State College on March 2.
Tripoli VFW Post and the American Red Cross ARC announce a bloodmobile unit will be in Tri ibaie town hall on Tuesday March 2. The operation runs from 1 to 6pm with 125 pints goal and 50 donors signed so far. Call 882-4715 for details and participation notes.
A SSA representative will visit Waterloo on March 2 and 16 at the Court House Assembly Room, Waverly on March 11 at the City Hall, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. District Manager Vernon S. Meyer releases the schedule.
The Tripoli Women’s Bowling Association will hold its meeting Monday evening March 1 at 7 30 in the Town Hall auditorium.
The Tripoli Music Mothers plan a Wednesday meeting on March 3 at 8 p.m. in the high school home economics room. A band uniform representative is expected to attend.
Mrs. Louise Dohrmann entered the Bartels home at Waverly on Thursday and will make her home there.
The Cedar Valley Mental Health Center in Waverly obtains a 5525 meritorias grant from state mental health authorities to fund a six month experimental social services project at Bremer County Home. A part time social worker will be placed there to coordinate care and counseling with staff, hospitals, and volunteers.
Funeral services were held in Denver for John Wille 93 life long Bremer County resident. He died Saturday at Sunrise Guest Home Fredericksburg where he had lived five years. Born February 12 1878 in Maxfield Township he farmed nearby until 1940 retired to Bremer County Home. Survived by son Christy and several nieces and nephews.
Dr L J Magnall attended the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association State meeting held at the Fort Des Moines hotel in Des Moines from Sunday through Tuesday.
Fred Holm was removed from a nursing home to Allen Hospital in Waterloo on Tuesday and remained hospitalized.
Tripoli high school placed third in the class A district at Conrad as coach John Samuelson took seven boys to the district tourney with six champions or consolation winners. Richard Gienau and Lowell Kuecker earned state bids in 138 and 185 pounds, while Wapsie Valley and Britt highlighted other area wrestlers earning berths.

January sales of Series E and H savings bonds in Bremer County totaled 52768, reaching 11 percent of its 1971 quota. Iowa's January bond sales rose to 7542477, up nearly 1.8 million from December, with 10 percent of the state's 1971 goal. Clay leads Iowa at 23 percent, followed by Fremont East Pottawattamie and Warren at 20 percent each. Sales may rise further with the 5 percent rate on Series E and H bonds held to maturity.
