Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at St Pauls Lutheran church Waverly for Ben Kalal 74 who formerly farmed northeast of Tripoli before moving to Waverly in 1945. He died Feb 6 at his home after a heart attack. Born Dec 2 1896 in Verdigree Nebraska he was married to Laura Hoferer Sept 22 1920. He later worked at the Waverly Publishing Co until retiring in 1955. They recently observed their golden wedding anniversary. Survived by wife a son Rev Delford J Kalal Alexandria VA four grandchildren and two sisters Mrs John Boehm Chicago and Mrs Alice Lyons Seattle.

Funeral services for Elmer Spier 58 of Cedar Falls were held Monday at Cleveland Funeral Chapel in Waverly. Spier, a Cedar Falls contractor and realtor and former Readlyn resident, died Thursday in Cedar Falls after noon. Born November 20 1912 in Black Hawk County near Readlyn he married June Kublank in 1936. Survivors include wife June son Gary four grandchildren a brother Arnold Cresco and sister Mrs Arnold Lydia Stumme Clermont. Burial was in Shell Rock.

Tripoli Jaycees hosted their third annual bosses night banquet at the town hall with 131 attendees. Lee Hinrichs of Hampton delivered an inspirational talk on Apathy or Opportunity. Awards went to Leslie Lauck Vernon House and Donald Bremer. Projects included beautifying Northtown park and raising funds for a heart lung machine for the ambulance team. Proceeds from a Donkey basketball game on March 5 will kickoff the fundraiser.
