Lock's Auto Wins Team Championship in Women's Bowling Tourney

Lock's Auto captures the team title at the 1969 Women's City Bowling Tournament held at Tripoli Bowl. They finished with a 2717 handicap team series to top Kramer-Crittenden, State Farm Insurance, Foeller Construction, and Farriers Savings Bank among others. Sheryl Drewis won the singles title with a 605 handicap series and several pairs and all events winners are listed in the complete summaries.

Cedar-Wapsie wrestlers win conference crown 31-16

Trans varsity wrestlers claimed the Cedar-Wapsie conference title with a 31-16 victory over Wapsie Valley. Panther coach John Samuelson praised the season’s effort and said the team will compete in the national tournament at Denver as the schedule shifts to postseason action.

Fremont Two Town Buy New Tank Truck

Fremont township and Triple Fire Department opened bids for a new tank truck at their Monday meeting. Buhr Chevrolet bid $2985 for a 350 cubic inch engine while Ambrose Auto bid $2980 for a 330 cubic inch engine. The board approved Buhr's bid with the larger engine.

Corn-Soybean Clinic Set for Feb 18 in Tripoli Town Hall

A corn and soybean production clinic will be held Tuesday February 18 at Tripoli Town Hall from 9 45 a m to 3 15 p m. Dr Regis Voss of Iowa State University will discuss fertiliser practices for profits while Kay Connelly will cover cultural practices and use of TIBA. The session is open to all with no advance registration and attendees bring own noon meal.

Final Rites for C. H. Knief, Denver, Saturday

Funeral services for Charles H. Knief aged 69 of rural Denver were held Feb. 8 at St Peter Lutheran Church in Denver with burial in Fairview cemetery. He died Wednesday at Waverly Convalescent Home after residing at Bremer County Home. Born August 4, 1899 in Bremer County, he was the son of Carl K and Sophia Stolte Knief and farmed locally. He was preceded by sisters Mrs Emil Foelske and Mrs Edwin Bender. Surviving are brother Louis of Waverly Convalescent Home and sister Mrs Herman Hulda Wolter of rural Denver.

First Annual Fisheree Stirs Midwest Fishing Fans

The 1st annual Fisheree on Gremore Lake near Prairie du Chien runs Feb 15 16 sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce Jaycees and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Activities begin after 7 30 a m with registration at 7 a m near the lake. Iowa license holders with 1969 credentials may fish without a Wisconsin license.

Cedar Valley to Sponsor Art Show in Waverly

The fifth annual area competitive Art Show will be held in Waverly from February 16 to March 2. Artists may submit original works at Cedar Valley Art Association Gallery on February 8 and 9 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Judge Richard Leet of the McNider Museum in Mason City will select Best in Show, with a $100 prize. Fifth Generation at the Barber Chair as Sommer Keeps Trade Alive

Walter Sommer a barber of 47 years remains active in the trade as he cut the hair of 22 month old Danny Buls, son of Loren Buls, marking five generations of barbers on the same block. The lineage traces from Otto Buls to William Buls Tripoli Lawrence Buls and onward to Loren and Danny. Sommer began in 1922 and has worked in the same shop area since his start.

Tripoli teams close conference play with wins

The Tripoli Pantherettes beat Fredericksburg 67 56 and the Panthers defeated Fredericksburg 67 35 in a conference finale. Dave Ray praised defensive effort, highlighted Tom Green and Wayne Mayer Rick Wittenburg Willis Hildebrandt for rebounding and defense, with Dan Biesterfelt adding 14 points and solid floor play.
