Tripoli businessmen schedule free pancake day on February 27 at Town Hall serving smokie sausages, pancakes, syrup, butter, coffee, and milk from 10 30 a m to 5 00 p m. The event by local business council aims to thank patrons and draw the Tripoli trading area to a community meal with all supplies provided.
Bremer County bids for two paving jobs at a February 11 meeting. S-1494 covers 0.4 mile near Stockwell Bridge and 2.6 miles from the NE corporate line north and east. Total bids reached 124,859.25 with Klin Construction Co. the apparent low bidder.
Mrs. Greg Schmidt entered Alto Memorial Hospital in Waterloo Sunday for therapy treatments after sustaining an injury to her leg. Medical staff will administer prescribed therapy to aid recovery and mobility.
A total of 44 persons were served by the Iowa Highway Patrol driving license examining team during their morning session at the Town Hall. The team issued one chauffeur license and 29 operator licenses, seven written tests, and temporary driving permits for four instruction permits. They will return to the Town Hall on Saturday, March 15.
Mrs. Fred Holm was discharged from Mercy hospital in Waverly and is spending time at Reverend Holm's home in Den.
Limited postal service in Tripoli on Saturday March 22 due to national holiday. No regular bank service and reduced post office operations. Star route mail moves to patrons' boxes with no evening delivery or counter service. Local Savings Bank and others in Bremer County closed per bank association schedule.

A controversial Iowa bill to ease abortion access draws Senate floor debate with Gov. Ray and the Iowa Medical Society backing. It allows abortion when the mother faces grave health risk or the fetus would have serious defects, or in rape cases. The measure has drawn record letter pressure from constituents.
Two day agricultural credit school at Roger's New Hampton on March 6 and 13 will cover when and how to use credit, cost variability, and building a fair credit rating. Dale Shires notes sessions on cash flow budgets, farm business accounts, and panels with bankers, production credit, and other ag suppliers. Registration is $4 including meals. pre-registration through Shires is advised.
Lawmakers in both chambers approve bills to shift the Iowa primary from September back to June. The push follows a failed attempt years earlier to shorten campaigns by moving the date.
Funeral services are planned Thursday at 2 PM at St. Pauls Lutheran Artesian for Fred Heine 76 who died Tuesday morning at Allen Memorial hospital Waterloo where he had been a patient since January 14 He was born May 6 1892 in Iowa He married Clara Rucker May 6 1917 she preceded him in 1953 He retired to Denver after farming in Artesian area He is survived by four sons Erwin Tripoli Alfred Lavern Frederick Waverly five daughters and many grandchildren and great grandchildren The body will be taken to the church at noon Thursday from the Cleveland Funeral Home Denver
The L. L. Moeller family moved over the weekend to a remodeled residence once occupied by H. W. and Alice Krueger. Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Gaede bought the Moeller home and plan to move this week.
The Tripoli boys begin sectional action Monday Feb 24 at Maynard. First game at 7:00 p.m. upper bracket hosts, followed by Valley of Elgin and Fredericksburg at 8:30 p.m. West Central and Sumner have first round byes. Semi finals on Feb 26 at 7:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The sectional champion advances to the class A district tourney at U.S.C. Fayette on March 5.
Wapsie Sportsmen's Club held its annual organizational meeting naming Richard Traog as president to succeed Erwin Towne. Other officers are Woodrow Klemp as vice president, Richard Harms secretary, and Lorenz Meier treasurer. Committees appointed include Program, Park, Refreshment, Stag, Auditing, Nominating, Membership and Fishery with named chairmen and members.
Mr and Mrs Otto Buls visited Mr and Mrs Edward Biermann at the Bremer County Home in Iowa City. Mrs Biermann traveled to Iowa City on Tuesday for observation and treatment.
Rev. John Albright of Wisconsin accepts the pastorate at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church Readlyn and will move his family in mid April. He succeeds Rev. Erich Dornbusch who has served 27 years. Dornbusch recently bought a home in Tripoli and will leave the parsonage in early April.
Mr and Mrs John Sassmann visited their relative Elmer Sassmann at Allen Memorial hospital Saturday afternoon providing a brief update on his health.
Annual Blue and Gold Cub Scout banquet will be held Sunday Feb 23 at 6 30 p m in Tripoli Town Hall. Various achievement awards will be made. Each family should bring table service and two covered dishes. Beverage meat and dessert furnished. Entertainments planned.
Grace Lutheran church in Tripoli has received its church directories featuring pictures of congregants and organization members. Copies may be picked up at the church after the Ash Wednesday service.
Mr and Mrs Larry Bright returned Monday afternoon from Chicago where they had gone Saturday Larry bowled in the Peterson Classic tournament Sunday.
Tripoli High claimed the team trophy at the Denver sectional with 86 points and advanced six champions to the district wrestling tournament in Jesup on February 21 22. Names include Randy Neuendorf at 103 pounds Steve Blasberg 112 Curtis Neuendorf 127 Mike Harms 138 Lowell Kuecker 175 and Gene Johnson heavyweight. Wrestlebacks feature Bruce Gienau 120 Roger Buchholz 133 Dan Whitney 145 Paul Garner 154 and Steve Garner 165.
Iowa, one of 45 states, participates in suits charging drug firms with conspiracy to monopolize broad spectrum antibiotics and keep prices high. Attorney General Richard C. Turner says five defendants in the antitrust case have offered a settlement estimated at 1.5 to 1.8 million dollars to Iowa.
Plainfield sends five wrestlers to district action on February 22 including champions Smith 95 lb Harrell 133 lb and Deike 145 lb with consolation White 103 lb and Jannsen 127 lb. Denver hosts Everding 120 lb and Walther 112 lb while Schilling 133 lb remains in wrestleback. State tourney to follow February 28 and March 1 at McElroy Auditorium Waterloo.
Tripoli beat Don Bosco 63-60 after trailing by five at halftime. Coach Dave Ray cited a 10 day layoff and illness affecting Kim Kehe Willis Hildebrandt Dan Biesterfelt and Paul Magnall but praised Witt enburg Biesterfelt and Hildebrandt’s second half efforts. The Panthers close regular season with Stormont on Friday.
Tripoli Pantherettes suffered a 77 73 double overtime loss to Fredericksburg in the opening round. coach Dave Van Ahn lauded their 17 3 season and 46 12 three-year mark. Parkersburg, Greene, and Aplington won their games as sectional action continued with semi finals set for Thursday at Aplington. Three teams from the section will advance to district play.
