Tripoli loses 76-70 to Nashua in the sectional round, trailing after the third quarter as Nashua builds a 55-50 edge. Strike scores 20 for Nashua, Vanek 18. Tripoli finishes the season next Tuesday night at Nashua seeking a rematch.
One case was tried by Mayor Rudolph Piegers in January. Lloyd James Kammeyer was fined $5 and $1.50 costs for causing unnecessary disturbance on several occasions with his car.
Tonight at 8 p m a meeting at the Tripoli High School auditorium will discuss possible school reorganization for the area. Guest speaker John Schultz from the State Department of Public Instruction will outline goals and answer questions as delegates form a citizen committee to study plans. Invited are area organizations and rural school directors served by Tripoli district buses. Public is welcome.
Readlyn Fire Department sponsors a dance on Tuesday February 15 at the Readlyn Community Building. Proceeds support a resuscitator. Admission is one dollar per person. Music by Leo and His Pioneers.
Frese Variety owner Jack Frese will auction all remaining stock and fixtures Friday from 10:30 a.m. onward, including the cash register, with Reused and Levy of Mason City as auctioneers. The sale ends the quitting business phase begun January 28 as Frese shifts to a new insurance agency.
Tripoli cooperative creamery held its annual meeting at the town hall last Tuesday with 65 attending the dinner. Mervyn Ormston was elected to the board. Ed Bennett named secretary of organization. The report shows 693,031 lbs of cream, 203,761.1 lbs butterfat at 29.1 percent, 252,948 lbs butter produced, and an average patron price of 0.7076 cents.
Norman D. Fintel of Waverly is named 1955 fund-raising chairman for Bremer county cancer control. Mrs. A. H. Buss announces the county chapter of the American Cancer Society. last year the county exceeded its quota under Frederick E. Brown. The April crusade aims to educate residents and raise funds for cancer research to reverse rising death rates.
New officers of the Tripoli Volunteer Fire Department took office January 1 with Howard Holm as chief, E J Fink and Everett Ambrose as assistant chiefs, Hollis Niemeyer as secretary, and E C Biermann as treasurer. Chief Holm announced E R Cole has resigned effective this month and a new member will be elected for council approval.
Tripoli area endures a prolonged winter stretch with temperatures from a high of 33 to a low of 2 below, a Friday inch of snow adding to existing whiteness. Snow plows operated for the first time this winter as drifting occurred and moisture totals rose slightly, while more frigid air is expected to move in from the northern plains.
Frederika reports a 1954 loss of about 430 dollars with total income 2778.42 and expenditures 3207.43. Major costs include street outlays 1450.81 and debt service 620. Cash balance fell from 531.40 to 38.42 while municipal indebtedness stood at 3500. Property valuation for taxation was 155081 for real property and 44782 in monies and credits.
Suzanne Niemeyer daughter of Mr and Mrs Gordon Niemeyer submitted to a tonsillectomy at Sumner Community hospital on Saturday.
Funeral services for Herman J. Jordan 77 who died at home Monday of a heart ailment will be held Thursday at 1 30 p m at his home and at 2 p m at the Frederika Methodist church with burial in Alcock cemetery The Cedar Falls minister Rev J B Bird will officiate Jordan was born in Germany Feb 28 1877 and came to Iowa in 1892 He lived near Frederika Bremer and later settled in Frederika He is survived by his wife six children 23 grandchildren 19 great grandchildren and three sisters.
At a directors meeting Ray Block was reelected president for 1955 56 with Kenneth J. Kuhrt as secretary and James Crittenden as treasurer. Dr W G Goebel was elected vice president, joining a board including Elmer Bockhaus Aug Towne M W Bennett Harry Buhr and Erich Poock. Committees were named by the board with chairman and members listed for Planning Refreshments Entertainment Trap Shoot Auditing Fish Fryers and more.
Children of Mr. and Mrs. John Hesse will honor their parents on their 40th wedding anniversary next Sunday afternoon at Klinger Immanuel Lutheran church parlors with open house from 2 to 5. Devotions will be from 2 to 2 30 and social hour from 2 30 to 5. The former Elenore Vogel and John Hesse were married Feb 16 1915 at the Lutheran church in Sherrill Iowa. They lived on the farm homestead southwest of Readlyn until moving to Waterloo in 1953. They have three children Mrs Walter Beck of Sumner Mrs Arnold Aschbrenner of Shellsburg and Calvin of Dunkerton and five grandchildren.
Mrs Edna Droste will open a new women s dress shop named Fashionette on February 19 in Tripoli on the second floor of the old Town hall between the Post Office and Tripoli theatre. Grand opening details and free door prizes will be announced in next week s Leader ad.
Three Tripoli men Lorenz Bunger Bill Hills and Erich Poock won a free 14 foot boat at the Prairie du Chien Wisconsin Fishing Derby. With only one fish caught numbers were drawn for prizes and Hills won the boat, so the trio share one third each. They also had to buy a carrier to haul the boat home.
Mr and Mrs Herman Hagenow celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary next Sunday with a 5 pm dinner at Grace Lutheran Parish hall and an open house from 7 to 9 pm Their daughters Mrs Art Borcherding and Mrs Clarence Waskow of Sumner are among the relatives mentioned.
The Iowa Supreme Court unanimously voided the Readlyn Consolidated Independent School district for failing to publish legal notices in the next nearest newspaper. Notices appeared in Waverly papers. Tripoli was the next nearest with a paper. The district remains operational until year end to avoid disruption of education.
Three Tripoli produce businesses Panzer Produce Kramer Produce and Crittenden Produce and Hatchery announce they will close at 6 pm each Saturday starting this Saturday February 12 in separate ads in The Leader.
Mrs. E A Carstensen underwent a surgical procedure Saturday at Scholtz Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.
Boy Scout Week runs February 6 to 12 marking the 45th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America. More than 3,660,000 youths and leaders will participate in demonstrations and exhibits under the theme Building for a Better Tomorrow. Since 1910 over 22,750,000 have been members. Units may earn National Conservation Good Turn Certificates of Merit awarded by Agriculture Secretary Benson and Interior Secretary McKay for completing the first year of the conservation initiative at President Eisenhower’s request.
Tri soli Community Chest schedules its inaugural annual meeting in the Town Hall Monday at 8 p m. Permanent directors will be elected to replace temporary officers. All contributors are members and can vote. Reports on finances will be given. first fund drive raised 2554 75, above goal 2530.
ReadlynTown released its 1954 financial report showing total income 35343.86 and expenditures 30092.68. Land and bonds rose to 38311.96, with utilities producing 29641.52 including 27149.69 from the light plant and 2691.83 from water works.
Douglas township residents contributed $140.62 to Christmas Seals with rural schools adding $9.87. Mrs. Laurven Lageschulte announced the total and thanked the community. Summer and Bockhaus Barber Shop will move to Frese's Variety south space by March 1. Frese will hold a closing out auction Friday as he quits the business.
