Tripoli Community Chest board sets February 14 for the first annual meeting at Town Hall. All contributors are members. officers to be elected and next year’s activities discussed. Auditing and nominating committees named and a 1954 fund drive update given.
Emilia Sommerfelt who recently held a closing out sale at the farm south of Bremer moved to Tripoli last week. She purchased a southeast Tripoli home built this year by Hasbrouck Lumber Co.
About eighty people attended a Congregational church program Sunday night honoring S. A. Maurer who retired after 24 years as Sunday school superintendent. Mrs. Hadley Brewer announced the event and succeeded Maurer. Performances included vocal solos and duets by Lavern Lageschulte and Larry, piano by Kathy Hurmence, a hymn with Michael Buckley solo, and Helen Maulie on piano. Maurer spoke as Mrs. Brewer and the congregation presented an easy chair as a token of appreciation, followed by lunch in the basement.
Mr. and Mrs. Lavern Bell and Douglas hosted a Sunday dinner to mark the birthdays of Mrs. Lavern Bell, Mrs. Noack, and Wendell Bell. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Noack, Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Bell and daughters Wa terloo, and Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Drewis and Jimmy.
Residents of Frederika township contributed $92.33 to the Christmas Seal and Heart Fund campaign. Township chairman Mrs. Dale Mueller announced the total for national and state tuberculosis and heart disease work and thanked residents for their generous response.
Funeral services for Arthur Schult 61 lifelong Sumner resident were conducted Monday at Berg Funeral Home and St. John American Lutheran Church. Burial followed in Lutheran Cemetery. He was born April 7 1893 in Sumner and died after a lingering illness. He married Hilda Koehler in 1914 and they farmed northwest of Sumner before moving to town four years ago. Survivors include his widow two granddaughters two great grandsons three sisters and one daughter Delores Nolte who preceded him in July 1954.
Keith Cantwell of near Tripoli buys a portable grinding mill and now accepts grinding orders, announced this week in an advertisement in the issue.
Mr and Mrs J P Snelling and Benny Kehe visited Monday evening at the home of Mr and Mrs Cecil Schroeder. Len ne Schroeder returned home Sunday from Allen Memorial hospital after a three week stay for a kidney infection.
Forty five high school students and 32 grade school pupils are named on the Tripoli honor roll for the third six weeks by Supt. E. R. Shriver. The list includes seniors William Boeckmann Merlin Dettmering Betty Kalkbrener Geraldine Lohmann Carolyn Rogge Cheryl Colburn Dale Drape Ruth Kreis Wallace Miller Mark Wilharm and others.
Mr and Mrs R O Wikner attended the funeral of Mrs Robert Wikner in Sioux Falls South Dakota on Saturday She was his sister in law and had been ill about a year They also visited relatives in Laverne Minnesota Roxie Beisner of Iowa City spent from Thursday afternoon to Monday afternoon at her parents Mr and Mrs Walter Beisner home
Grace Lutheran church installed 1955 Brotherhood officers during Sunday morning worship. Oscar A. Bany was named president, Albert Ober lieu vice-president, Alfred H. Rieck secretary, and Clarence Nerge treasurer.
The Bremer County home shows a loss of about 22500 for the year ending December 31 1954 per a legal notice. Receipts totaled 37188.22 with 29667.44 from sale of stock and produce while expenditures reached 60704.96. Oscar Heideman serves as steward and Mrs Oscar Heideman as matron.
Tripoli Cooperative Creamery schedules its annual meeting at the Town Hall next Tuesday with lunch at 11 30 a m and a business session afterward. Two directors will be elected. W E Mueller serves as president and Edward Bennett as secretary.
Mrs. A. H. Tegtmeier marks her 90th birthday with quiet observance at home. She has three children Ernest of Knoxville, Emma Beisner of Waverly, and Bertha at home. She is reported to be in good health.

Pupils of Douglas No. 8 school present a program Friday night at 8 o clock. Public is invited to attend.
Tripoli’s Ruben Engert found a bottle gourd shaped egg in his flock. The unusual egg measures about three inches long and one inch at its widest, and he plans to keep it as a curiosity. The note adds a local nod to Tripoli known as the World’s Egg Basket.
Tripoli girls bowed out in the first round of the sectional basketball tournament at Fredericksburg 68 to 36. Frederika played well led by Bockhaus 28 and Abbas 18, while Tripoli was without top scorer Rochelle Duecker for disciplinary reasons. Sauerbrei led Tripoli with 17 points as Frederika pulled away by halftime and after the third quarter.
Mr and Mrs Harry Buhr spent the weekend in Chicago where Mr Buhr attended the National Automobile Dealers Association convention.
Mr and Mrs E J Fink hosted a Tuesday evening party for their daughter Terryne in honor of her eighth birthday. Attending were Mr and Mrs John Sassmann Mr and Mrs R F Klemp and family Mr and Mrs Robert Sassman and Will Fink.
A citizen committee meeting to study possible school reorganizations will be held February 9 at 8 p.m. in the Tripoli High School auditorium. John Schultz of the State Department of Public Instruction will speak on policy and answer questions. Representatives of area organizations and rural school directors served by Tripoli Independent School District buses are invited, along with the general public.
Harold Eugene Wieland of Waverly was sent to Des Moines for induction this Tuesday. It marks the county selective service board's smallest monthly call in four years, with February producing only one inductee and no pre-induction physicals.
Mrs James Crittenden was submitted to minor surgery at Sumner Community Hospital on Monday and returned home Tuesday afternoon.
Frese announces the closing out of his entire ten thousand dollar stock at Frese's Variety and Hardware. Hardware, variety goods, drug sundries and school supplies are offered at bargain prices while fixtures go on sale. He reports strong community response and says he will devote full time to his new insurance venture. He owns the building and has not announced occupancy plans.
The VFW Auxiliary will sponsor its annual talent show on Tuesday evening February 15 at Town Hall. Entries are invited and may contact Mrs. Leo Tonne or Mrs. C. C. Eichmann.

Uierold Miller returned home Saturday afternoon from Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo where he had been a patient the past week.
A Readlyn area fire destroyed a barn and pump house on the Oscar Albrecht farm, killing 60 hogs and four cattle and consuming about 1,200 bales of hay. The blaze was discovered at 12:15 a m by neighbors and could not be contained. Other buildings on the farm were saved.
Mr and Mrs Harley Sorg of Marion and Mr and Mrs Lee O Peacock depart Friday for a southern journey. They plan several weeks in southern Texas and Mexico.
Grace Lutheran church will install 55 officers from the Women's Missionary Society and the Ladies' Aid Society on Sunday at 10 30 AM. Women’s officers include President Mrs Raymond Dohrmann and Vice President Mrs Victor Nacke with secretary Mrs Ervin C Heinemann and treasurer Coretta Dettmering. Ladies' Aid officers are President Mrs Fred Brase and Vice President Mrs William D Tonne with secretary Mrs Erwin Tonne and treasurer Mrs Henry Blasberg.
Richard Hemingway of Waverly was named county representative for the Junior Bar section of the Iowa State Bar Association. He will lead the section's speakers bureau program within the county.
American Legion Auxiliary will hold their regular meeting Tuesday evening February 8 at 8 o clock in the Town hall. Hostesses are Nora Peacock Ella Sell and Sarah Holm.
The Butler County REA will hold its annual meeting at the Waverly Theatre starting at 1 p.m. next Wednesday. All patrons are invited to attend.
Tripoli travels to Sumner for a Friday game with the Aces then to Nashua on Tuesday for the last regular season contest. Carlyle Nicklaus leads with 17 points and Denny Olejniczak adds 16 as Tripoli wins 58-50 over Lawler. West Waterloo reserves fall 58-44 with Harlan Laube and Naac tied at 21.
Gertrude Morse along with Sonia and Dorothy Williams of Minneapolis dined with Mr and Mrs C H Smith on Saturday. Morse sails March 8 from New York aboard the S S United States to visit friends in France before flying to French Equatorial Africa to teach at a mission school for four years.
Denver plans a Centennial observance sponsored by the Commercial club led by club president Lawrence Heinemann. residents with old Denver memorabilia or ancestral keepsakes are urged to contact him promptly to contribute displays. The event is scheduled for June 10 and 11.
