Tripoli boys fall short after late rally against Sumner

In a tight boys game Tripoli trailed Sumner by 50-37 entering the fourth quarter before a furious rally fell short 65-62. Carlyle Nicklaus scored 33 points, 28 in the second half, while Terry Dreyer limited Sumner star Pipho to eight.

Lavern Tegtmeier Elected President of Sportsmen's Club

Lavern Tegtmeier was elected president of Wapsie Sportsmen's Club at a board meeting last Thursday night, succeeding Ray Block. New officers include Dr. W. G. Goebel as vice president Walter Steward as treasurer and K. J. Kuhrt as secretary. Committees were named for refreshments auditing planning and more. The next meeting on Feb 28 will be Ladies Night with a fish dinner for paid members and spouses.

Local Bowlers Win Doubles Tourney On Sumner Lanes

Tripoli bowlers took first and second in the mixed doubles at Sumner Lanes Sunday. Doris Nerge and Ray Oltrogge won with 1 196 pins, Bob Fink and Genevieve Meyer were second with 1 127. Fight teams were entered from the area around Sumner.

Grace Church Receives Top Award at Rural Institute

Grace Lutheran church of Tripoli was named one of five Iowa churches to earn the Institute’s merit with distinction award at Iowa State College Ames. Rev. Wm. F. Goetz attended to accept. others from Tripoli included Rev. E F Puhlmann and Rev. L E Gatch.

Janesville Girls win Lake Sectional in decisive final

Janesville's powerhouse girls team, Bremer County Conference champions, crushed Fredericksburg 63-48 to win the Janesville lake sectional. Denver beat Readlyn 51-43 for the consolation title as Readlyn pulled away in the second quarter and held on.

The American Legion Auxiliary will meet Tuesday evening February 14 at 8 pm in the Town hall. Members are asked to bring $2 in place of a bake sale.

Mrs James Kerr and Norman Fintel named 1956 cancer control fundraiser co chairs for Bremer county by Mrs Elmer Rucker. Fintel and Kerr aim to raise funds for research and education during Cancer Crusade in April, noting 24 local cancer deaths in 1954 and 2879 county residents still at risk if death rates persist.

Water loo Woman's Club Honored at Radio Broadcast

Tripoli ladies attended the breakfast broadcast in Water loo last Saturday. Ruby Servoss and Mrs. Hazel Chapin were honored for long service as teachers. Miss Servoss received an orchid and a kiss from master of ceremonies Charlie Trussel. Mrs. Chapin got a box of apples. Two other members, Mrs. Robert Ambrose and Mrs. Les Lauck, won drawing prizes.

Colburn Feed Mill will sponsor a pork lift to reduce the pork surplus on Friday February 17. The plan offers a free ham with each ton of feed purchased along with free coffee and doughnuts all day. Manager Dave West announced the event.
