Tripoli girls start sectional action in Janesville facing Readlyn after Readlyn beat them last Friday. Tipoff at 7 pm with Frederika vs Janesville at 8 30 pm. Monday action saw Denver 65 Oran 47 and Fredericksburg 57 Dunkerton 53.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Rettig Funeral Home and Peter's Evangelical and Reformed Church for Nicholas Robert Ambrose 60 Tripoli businessman who died unexpectedly Thursday morning at Sumner hospital He was a partner at N R Ambrose Co in failing health the last months Military services were by Brandenburg Krueger Post No 1013 V F W Interment was in the church cemetery He was born Oct 18 1895 near Tripoli and worked at the creamery and Skelly Oil before starting in the Ambrose auto business He married Sarah Biermann in 1918 who died in 1956 Surviving are two sons Everett and Lowell three daughters Mrs Nelson Niemeyer Mrs James Frazier and Mrs Robert Ormston six grandchildren and three sisters Newspaper notes his Legion and VFW memberships and community ties.
The 1956 Iowa Christian Rural Institute will convene at Iowa State College Ames next Monday and Tuesday with theme Religious Values in Daily Living. Five workshops explore growing things arts group relationships and human relationships with about a dozen special contributors including Rev. Lester E. Gatch and Rev. William F. Goetz.
Tripoli Mercantile Co. reports a long distance order from Darby Pennsylvania for two pounds of white popcorn based on their ad. Mrs E M Hein sent the postage and the purchase followed a Leader mailing to Wm Bang now in Lansdowne. It pays to advertise.
The Tripoli Community Chest will hold its annual meeting at the Town hall on Monday February 13. All donors from last year become members with voting rights. Board member Paul Voetmann’s term ends and a new three year director will be elected.
County Assessor W. J. Kelling began a seven site visit tour in Tripoli to assess personal property and collect homestead credit and veterans exemption applications. He will be at the Town hall onWednesday and returns Feb 3 6 7 8 and 10. Taxpayers were sent cards with preferred dates or options for alternate assessment days. Veterans exemption and homestead credit rules now require annual signatures.
Eddie Allen will perform at a benefit dance in Janesville on February 9 to aid the Tripoli VFW. Tickets available at Hub Wayside and Tripoli Cafe. Proceeds go to the Tripoli veterans organization.
Tripoli prepares for a busy finish as both boys and girls chase sectional bids. The boys host Green Friday after a 70 58 win over Readlyn, giving the Panthers a 9 1 conference mark. The girls drop to Readlyn 64 53 as Sherlie Sauerbrei scores 29 for Readlyn and Carlyle Nicklaus leads Tripoli with 31 in the earlier win.
John C. Zander 79 died Tuesday at his home after long illness. Funeral Friday at 1 45 p m Rettig Funeral home and 2 p m Grace Lutheran Church with burial in the church cemetery. Zander, born January 12 1877 in Fremont township, married Hulda Pries in 1908. Survived by wife son Walter daughter Arlene three grandchildren and siblings.
Anna Schumacher, Readlyn correspondent for The Leader, resigns after decades of service. Berdine Lacy, longtime helper and Readlyn Telephone Co employee, assumes the post. The paper thanks Schumacher for loyalty and welcomes Lacy to the staff to cover Readlyn and nearby news.
The Congregational P F League will sponsor a waffle supper on Thursday February 2 at 5 30 p m. The price is 75 cents per person The menu includes waffles sausages salad ice cream milk and coffee Five free suppers will be awarded to those in line whose numbers will be revealed

Bremer district father son banquet for all Boy Scouts and Explorers will be held at Tripoli Town Hall next Wednesday evening Feb 8 at 7 pm. Slides and souvenirs of the 1955 Jamboree will be shown. Advance tickets are available from Elmer Wilharm.
Will H. Bang fractured his hip on his farm northwest of Tripoli Friday night and was taken to Sumner hospital Saturday morning.
Receipts and expenditures for the Town of Tripoli for the year ending December 31 show a balanced budget. Total receipts from taxes and services reached 41826.49 while expenditures totaled 41852.75. Street funding dominated income with 14467.08 of which 8890 came from taxes. street costs were 14985.41 with 3910.38 in salaries.
The report notes $5,000 applied to reducing Town Hall indebtedness to $37,000. Water works operations earned $9,545.81 with $4,365.72 in expenses, while sewer rent brought in $3,487.15 and incurred $6,480 in expenses. Year end balance stood at $38,989.96 with property valuation totaling $1,975,026 including monies and credits.
Readlyn Iowa district news reports the Readlyn area approved a reorganization plan by 77 percent after two years of study. A Readlyn Denver fire damaged a barn on the W H Hesse farm with estimated losses of 12 000 to 15 000. The measure creates a larger school district to improve administration and facilities for area students.
Eleven of thirteen districts approved forming a larger Tripoli Community School District with full consolidation planned for July 1. Warren No. 8 and Douglas No. 5 failed or tied, while overall vote favored the merger 668 to 200, with Tripoli Independent School district showing especially strong support and high turnout. Regular director elections occur in March for current districts, with new board formed by July 1 and assets liabilities consolidated pro rated.
Sumner Minnesota reports Harold Tank Construction Co. of Lawler the main contract at 19680 dollars to add 42 by 48 feet to Sumner Community Memorial hospital for three patient rooms storage space sun porch and laundry with one basement section unfinished. Flora and Forsyth of Minnesota won the mechanical bid at 10697 dollars including plumbing and heating. Freeman Electric of Independence bid 4600 dollars for electrical work. Work begins after spring weather permits.
The Rev. Cecil Jandrey of Appleton Wisconsin will be installed Sunday as pastor of St John s Lutheran church Frederika and St Paul s Lutheran church Siegel. A potluck lunch for both congregations follows at Siegel. Services are at 9 15 a m in Frederika and 10 45 a m in Siegel. Jandrey his wife and infant son moved into the Siegel parsonage this week. He was ordained last Sunday and is a Wartburg seminary graduate.
Mary Jane Matthias and James Oltrogge were married in an Immanuel Lutheran ceremony in Klinger Readlyn before 25 guests. The bride, daughter of Mr and Mrs H H Matthias of Denver, wore a charcoal gray suit and pink accessories. the groom is the son of Mr and Mrs Harold Oltrogge of Readlyn. The ceremony was officiated by Rev Wm F Reddel with sister Judy Matthias as attendant and Gerald Oltrogge as best man. Lunch followed at the bride’s parents home. The couple resides with the groom’s parents.
The Walther League of St John’s Lutheran Church Spring Fountain hosts a chili supper on Thursday February 9 starting at 5 30 pm. Tickets are 75 cents adults and 40 cents children. Proceeds support church activities.

Readlyn Telephone Co. held its annual meeting on January 21 naming Paul G. Meyerhoff as president. J. H. Matthias was elected vice president, August Hesse secretary and treasurer, with Edgar Albrecht, Herbert Otto, Edwin Klemp, Otto Schmidt and E. J. Spier as directors. Edgar Albrecht named manager and Mrs. Anna Schumacher chief operator, beginning her 30th year in that role.
The Iowa State Conservation Commission opened the Wapsipinicon River to promiscuous fishing through March 1 due to winter kill risk from low water and ice. All species may be taken by any legal means except dynamite or stupefying substances, with no commercial use allowed. Early reports said anglers had a good time, though catches varied and no giant specimens were shown.
