George Haffner 79 pioneer wagonmaker of Sumner died Friday morning at daughter Clara Goldsberry’s Sioux City home. Heart disease caused his death. He was Sumner’s first constable and served Bremer county as deputy sheriff 17 years under four sheriffs. Surviving widow, two daughters and five sons plus three daughters from a previous marriage. Body returned for burial. funeral at Salem Evangelical Church officiated by Rev J D Klooz. interment Wilson Grove cemetery.

Groom, son of Mr and Mrs C B Kelsey of Tripoli, is a 1926 Tripoli High School graduate and farmer. They will live with his parents and farm together. Best wishes from friends.
Due to the holidays falling on Sunday this year Tri poli Merchants will observe Christmas and New Years on Monday giving their help and themselves a day off. General stores open until 9 30 then close for the balance of the day. Garages open until noon then closed afternoon and evening. Restaurants recreational parlors open all day filling stations open all day.
Frederika special report says Anthony Sievers, patient at Mercy hospital, Waverly, for over two months, was brought home Sunday. He can sit up but cannot walk yet. He was severely injured when run over by a truck near the mixing machine while paving primary 59 this fall.

Mrs Meyer a Tripoli high school graduate class of 1930 and universal institute Fort Wayne 1932. Mr Meyer Sumner high school graduate 1982. Reception and dinner followed at the bride’s parents home.

Mr and Mrs Fred Harmening Jr of TriPoli marked their 50th anniversary with family at home on December 19. A 5 pm dinner featured a yellow and gold anniversary cake by granddaughter Leona Judisch. Rev Hanff spoke, and guests included children Lena Gies and Ernest Judisch, Fred Harmening Jr, and grandchildren Bennetta Judisch Leona Judisch and Leslie Judisch, among others. The couple are 82 and 68, married at Buck Creek Lutheran Church, now living in TriPoli after retiring from Crane Creek farm.
Sumner special report: Mr and Mrs John Rockdaschel long time pioneers mark their 60th anniversary. Married December 17 1872 in Helenville Wisconsin, they settled near Sumner in 1873 and have lived in town 82 years. Attendees from multiple towns joined in Rev Mardorf speech.
Mr and Mrs H T Lau hosted a birthday observance on Sunday December 19 with a 1230 dinner. Guests included Fred Bartz of New Hampton Walter Bull near Frederika Art Lau August Kummelehne Louis Schwarze John Boeckman Ernest Drewis and Ernest Ladage and families from the city. Cards and visiting followed, with a late lunch served by the hostess.
Dr. Frederick E. Clements an ecologist in Santa Barbara California grew Alpine wheat at timberline near Colorado Springs Colorado at about 11000 feet. The crop thrived as part of an effort to breed wheat able to grow on high mountain ranches. Also noted is Mrs J C Fink celebrating her 69th birthday on Thursday December 15.
Frederick Richman 83 died at his home after a long illness. Born in Hanover Germany October 17 1849 he lived in the county 68 years. Survived by his widow five daughters and three sons. Funeral at St Pauls Lutheran church Wednesday at 1 30 with Rev R C Schlueter officiating followed by burial in St Pauls Lutheran cemetery.
Miss Mary Harrington aged 70 died at Mercy hospital Saturday morning December 17 after an operation two weeks earlier for stomach trouble. She lived with her two brothers and helped raise nine nieces and nephews. Survived by brothers Mike Timothy and John and many relatives. Funeral services were at St Marys Catholic church Monday at 9 30, burial in St Marys Catholic cemetery. Six nephews served as pallbearers.
Waverly mentions Frederick Feldman and Mary La dage of State Teachers College Cedar Falls on the honor roll among 18 men and 72 women. Outside work on the Spahn & Rose Lumber Company building is nearly finished and ready for move-in. Bremer County Medical Association held an annual meeting at Mercy hospital with a turkey dinner and Santa Claus distributing toys. The Woman's Relief Corps plans 21 baskets for old soldiers and widows during Christmas, with officers elected for the year. Several ill or bereaved residents noted, plus a Rochester clinic visit for throat treatment and deaths in the area. A heating plant explosion at the Mutual Aid building caused windows to break and pipe damage, with smoke and dust but no major disruption.
