Funeral services for Henry Tegtmeier 58 were held Friday at Meier's funeral home and St. Peter's Evangelical Church with Rev. Goetz and Rev. Adix presiding. Burial was in Grace Lutheran cemetery with VFW honors. He was born November 13, 1894 in Fayette County and died last Wednesday in Waterloo. He served in World War I and is survived by his wife Elsa, a daughter Dorothy, two grandchildren, a brother Ed H. Tegtmeier, his mother Sophie, and was preceded by three brothers and a sister.

A persistent cold wave kept temperatures low with a Monday low of 11 degrees the month's record, while the week’s high reached 44 degrees Tuesday. Daytime averages were about 33, six-digit daily highs and lows tracked by E. C. Biermann show a notable drop from last week. Precipitation totaled .05 inch Thursday with traces on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and a trace of snow fell across Thursday through Sunday, giving December a total precipitation of 0.22 inch.

Tripoli Man Arrested for OMVI on Friday
Wendell Redies of Tripoli arrested in Sumner by Marshal Robert Schmidtke on OMVI charges. He pleaded guilty in justice court, bound over to Bremer county district court, released on $500 bond posted by Gust H. Redies of Tripoli. Loren Krueger of Route 2 Wa verly also jailed for OMVI at 1:10 am Sunday. Emil Bahlmann of Frederika fined $300 for OMVI with license suspended 60 days.

Two Tragic Deaths Here During The Past Week
Two deaths sadden the community in the pre holiday period. Edward Franzen 23 of Tripoli took his own life by a 22 revolver in the haymow after despondence over entering the Air Force. Louis C Meyer 51 of Douglas township died in a highway accident near Tripoli when a broader house trailer struck his car and a nine foot embankment followed. Funeral services for Franzen were held at Meier funeral home and St Johns Crance Creek with burial in St Johns cemetery. Meyer was buried at St Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Siegel after services at Meier funeral home.

Thieves Rob Friendly Tavern of Cash Cigarettes and Beer
Thieves broke into the Friendly Tavern owned by Clem J. Schroeder during the weekend and took 13 dollars in cash seven six packs of beer and ten cartons of cigarettes.
