Westendorf Named to Telephone Company Board
The annual stockholders meeting of the Set Mutual Telephone Company elected and appointed directors. Donald E. Wrai Plainfield joined the board for a three year term, replacing Lucy A. Wosseller who left after 26 years. Westendorf, rural Waverly, was named to the board of directors at large. William Kuker Tripoli was elected president with F. Wilken Plainfield as vice president and J. Lynes Plainfield named secretary. The fiscal year shows 76 percent of the first loan repaid and 10.52 percent of the second loan repaid.

The Iowa Farm Bureau annual meeting in Des Moines recognized the Bremer County group for contributions to the National Federation of Women and the Associated Women of the World. Robert Becker led the effort supporting funds and refurbishing the Living arms mansion near Des Moines. In Mt Judea Arkansas Mr and Mrs Robert L Miller moved their family after running Tripoli Feed and Grain since 1971 and purchasing Colburn Feed Mill in 1973.

Auto Crash Claims Carl Abbas
A rural Plainfield man died in a one car crash when his 1968 Chevrolet struck a bridge abutment on highway 188 two miles east of Plainfield about 3 a.m. Saturday. Carl A Abbas, 19, died instantly. Passenger James Mennenga, 19 of Route 1 Waverly, was treated and released from the Waverly hospital. Funeral services were held Tuesday at St. Johns Lutheran Church Western Douglas with interment in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Carolyn Ohrt a 19 year old of Tripoli was released from Allen Memorial hospital Waterloo after a minor injury in a two car crash Friday evening. She sustained a slight concussion when her car driven by Ida Mae Grahlmann collided with a southbound vehicle driven by Ronald Brunscheon at a County Road D-48 turn south of Tripoli.

Million Acre Increase In Conservation Tillage
A USDA Soil Conservation Service survey shows 7.2 million acres of cropland in Iowa are using conservation tillage this year, up 18 percent from 6.1 million last year. This means about one third of corn and soybean land is being prepared without moldboard plows, reducing erosion by leaving crop residue on the surface. Chisel plowing also rose to roughly 2.4 million acres in 1976, indicating broad gains across conservation practices.
