Bremer County sheriff seeks tips to solve vandalism at Community School. Twenty six school buses suffered sidewall punctures during a weekend in November 2021. tires valued over 1800 dollars. A $150 reward promises confidentiality to informants leading to arrest or conviction.
Tripoli Fire Department held its annual officer election December 7 in city hall. Vern House was re-elected to a third term as fire chief, Bill Seelhammer and Richard Milius were re-elected as first and second assistant chiefs, Mark Schwarze elected secretary, and Larry Struck re-elected as treasurer. No paper drive will be held in December.
Bremer County Engineer Jorgenrud was named County Engineer of the Year by the Iowa County Engineer's Association at its Ames meeting. A 1950 Iowa graduate, he has held Bremer County posts since 1969 after earlier service in Cerro Gordo County. He is active in multiple engineering societies and community affairs.
Delegates will meet November 18 1976 at 10 00 in the meeting room at the National Bank Iowa to elect one and two alternates to the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service for 1977 Township committees for three year terms state for a one year county committee serve three full terms. The convention is open to the public and everyone is invited to attend. Tripoli Jr High hosts a December 13 concert featuring the Jr High Concert Band and 7th 8th grade vocalists. December 15 brings the High School Christmas Concert with the Concert Band and vocal groups Occasional Singers Madrigal and Mixed Chorus. Both start at 7 30 p m in the Tripoli High School Auditorium and are free to the public.
The Bureau of the Census will collect data on farm work for pay during the past year and migratory farm labor in the area the week of December 13 to 17 1976 Interviewers will visit a sample of households including Charlotte Westprahl of Waverly Iowa The survey is confidential and used to compile national statistics. A separate notice mentions a Tripoli Boy Scouts bake sale on December 11 at 8 a.m. at the Tripoli Plumbing and Heating shop.
The Tripoli Leader will publish Santa letters received at the newspaper and at Santa during his visit to Tripoli City Hall on December 18. Letters should include sender's full name. published in the December 22 issue. Santa arrives about 1 15 p.m. with cartoons at 1 30 p.m. and visits after the show.
Three semis loaded with 1 600 bales of hay are sent from seven area churches to Milan Minnesota for distribution to dairy farms in a 700 square mile drought affected zone. The effort aids Paul s Lutheran Artesian and other congregations including St Paul s Trinity Immanuel St John Denver St John Waverly Peace Shell Rockgs Readlyn to keep livestock fed.
The Veterans Housing Amendments Act of 1976 expands VA home loan guarantees to 250000 peacetime veterans effective October. Des Moines VA official Merle B Parker notes eligibility for those who served after July 25 1947 and before June 27 1950 with specific service conditions. New rules do not grant entitlement to overlaps with WWII or Korea service.
Postmaster Ray H. Fink says the mailing deadline for cards has passed but parcels mailed now should arrive before Christmas. Cards should be split into out of town and local bundles, with special stamps and 1976 mini albums available. The post office window opens Saturday December 11 and 18 until 11:30 a.m. for customers.
Wallace Laube a Waterloo bricklayer on Thanksgiving trip to Orlando prevented a Greyhound crash on Interstate 65 ten miles northeast of Nashville when the driver suffered a heart attack. He steered the bus to a stop from 55 mph, moved the unconscious driver away, and kept passengers safe until help arrived. The driver died, 41 passengers unharmed. Laube is son of Gus Laube and brother of Harold Laube of Tripoli.
The Bremer County Nutrition Project in Tripoli celebrates its first year since opening December 8 197. Now serving 790 plus participants countywide for residents 60 and older or spouses. The site at Tripoli City Hall is co sponsored by INACOG Iowa Commission on Aging and Hawkeye Valley Area Agency on Aging with volunteers delivering home meals and offering daily programs from nutrition to crafts. Meals run Monday through Friday with daily 10 am reservations.
Bremer County completed Extension Council elections in seven townships. Incumbent Stev e Buhr retained Dayton two year term. Mrs. men’s Club hosted Franklin meeting with gift drive for County Home. Walter Zander to Warren Township. Donald Beine and Melvin Schwartz named for Park and Tripoli townships. Fourteen council members serve unpaid to support Home Economics 4-H Agriculture and Community Services.
