Santa Claus Comes To Tripoli Show At 2 PM

Santa arrives from the North Pole for a free 2 pm show in Tripoli with a gift for every attending child. The program features a Western film "Black Dakotas," a Three Stooges comedy and a cartoon for all ages.

Leader designated as official depository for Santa letters

Santa Claus has named The Leader as the official depository for letters from local children. The Leader will print the letters in the Christmas edition and forward them to Santa. A box will be in Tripoli theatre lobby Saturday afternoon for children at the free show to drop letters. others may mail them to The Leader.

Tripoli event offers free show and turkey giveaway

The Tri city Commercial club sponsors a Saturday free show with Santa in Tripoli. Shoppers can buy tickets for a December 23 turkey drawing: 30 hens 9 to 12 pounds each awarded to holders of lucky tickets with a maximum one turkey per person. Tickets with each dollar spent or on account, available at 39 firms, drawing at 3 pm Friday.

Tripoli Hunters Take Five Deer in Three Day Season

In a three day season ending Monday, 13 deer were checked at the weighing station near Highways 3 and 63. Tripoli men claimed five, including Erich Poock, Lawrence Snelling, R. F. Klemp, Herb Biesterfelt, and Forrest Bolte, all with several does. the heaviest at 211 pounds was a buck shot by William Brooks of Waverly in Butler county.

James Haskovec son of Mr and Mrs LaVern Haskovec returns home Saturday from Sumner Community hospital where he underwent an appendectomy last week. His condition is improved.

Winter Weather Alters Tripoli Forecast and Roads

Snow rain and ice hit Tripoli with up to six inches forecast for the weekend then dwindled to small amounts. A mix of rain and sleet caused slick roads as temperatures hovered around freezing and subzero lows appeared earlier in the week. Local observer E C Biermann logged daily highs and lows while H W Niedert won a $5 trade certificate in a hardware store drawing, with more gifts planned the following Saturdays.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Hinrichs Held in Waterloo

Funeral services for Mrs. Fred Hinrichs 67 were held at Trinity Lutheran Church Waterloo with Rev. G E Melchert officiating. Burial followed at Midwest Garden of Memories. She died Sunday of a heart attack at St Francis hospital Readlyn born December 9 1887. She moved to Waterloo twenty years ago and was married March 4 1909. Survived by husband two sons Elmer Evansdale Floyd Waterloo two daughters Mrs James McNamae and Mrs E Melendy Waterloo eight grandchildren and six brothers William Herman Carl Henry Ernest Louis. Her son and a brother preceded her in death.

Bremer County youths Duane Kellum Duane Heinemann and Melvin Ohlendorf left Waverly Sumner for induction at Des Moines. They will be classified at the Des Moines reception center and assigned to Camp Chaffee Arkansas. The Leader marks 62 years with a new masthead and modern layout boosting reading matter by 26 percent.

Cagers Set To Host Denver In Big Weekend Clash

Tripoli's boys and girls faced a tough Bremer county slate with wins over Janesville for the boys and a loss for the girls to Janesville. The boys beat Janesville 64-30 here as Carlyle Nicklaus and Denny Olejniczak led with 12 each. The girls lost 44-37 after a dreadful third quarter, Trudy Nerge scoring 16 for Tripoli. The schedule includes a Friday home game vs Denver and a Tuesday trip to Readlyn.

In Mayor Rudolph Piegers court from Nov 7 to Dec 5, Clarion Winzenburg paid 12 dollars and costs for careless driving and improper parking. Tripoli Honor Roll Honors 84 Pupils Across Grades

Eighty four students from Tripoli Public Schools earned the second six weeks honor roll for the first semester. The list includes forty five high school and thirty nine grade school students who achieved at least a B average. Names span seniors to sixth grade with numerous pupils from each class level.

Post Office To Stay Open Saturday Afternoons

Tripoli Post Office will remain open the next two Saturdays to aid Christmas mailing. Window service will run 8 a m to 5 p m on December 10 and December 17, with regular hours 8 a m to 1 p m resuming December 24, according to Postmaster Ray Fink.

Voter petitions push for new school district formation

Dr. L J Magnall reports strong petition response for creating a new district. Of 1 320 eligible voters 1 031 signed representing 78 overall with 75 rural and 80 urban Tripoli area signers. Petitions go to county superintendent R C Gaard for hearing and future boundary action by the County Board of Education.

Gene Kadera of Sumner was chosen as president of the Bremer County Young People's group at a Town Hall meeting held Saturday night. New officers include Leroy Scharnhorst and Margie Dettmer, both of Waverly, with Dorothy Korte as treasurer and Ronald Linner as reporter.
