Largest Fish Contest Ends for Wapsie Sportsmen’s Club
The Wapsie Sportsmen's Club of Tripoli ended its largest fish contest on Monday December 1 after starting April 23. Prizes will be awarded at the January dinner for seven weight classes with eligibility limited to fish caught in Bremer Butler Black Hawk Chickasaw or Fayette counties. Leading catches include bass by Ewald Carstensen and Elmer Buchholz. northern pike or pickerel led by Ray Block. walleye by Claude Rowray Newt March and W. W. Simpson. crappie by Bert Bock and Erich Poock. catfish by Floyd Primus and E. S. Stephens. trout led by Herb Schwerin and Bill Bentley. carp led by Alfred Bock Ernest Drewis and Larry Bunger.

Sergeant Verner Schweer of Readlyn heads home from Korea after 15 months in the Far East under the army rotation program. He served with the 1st Cavalry Division, earning the Combat Infantryman Badge, and spent 17 months in Korea before later duties in Japan. A Readlyn High School graduate, he worked as a contractor before enlisting.

Hahn appeals county engineer case to Iowa Supreme Court
Oscar M. Hahn of Waverly acting for Bremer county engineer has filed an appeal to the Iowa Supreme Court. Attorneys filed notice November 25 with the county clerk appealing a October 30 ruling by Judge T. A. Beardsmore in Bremer county district court denying a hearing under the Soldiers Preference Law. The ruling holds the county board of supervisors may hire and fire the county engineer at its discretion.
