Rex Bales and Guy Gardner near New Hartford admitted stealing turkeys from Howard McCaffree at Waverly Junction. Three gallons of alcohol and more turkeys were found at Otto Hupp's home. Bales and Gardner pleaded guilty to turkey theft and were jailed for five years for larceny in Anamosa.

A lone bandit attempted to rob the August Malzahn family at their farm home three and a half miles southeast of Fredrika Sunday at about 6 30 p m He shot the father in the left hand with a shotgun and fled when the family intervened Walter Malzahn opened the door and the intruder demanded money The family members gathered from adjoining rooms caused the bandit to flee after the shot was fired The Malzahn home sits on a side road with no telephone and neighbors were notified hours later The family is reportedly financially well off and timber is common in the area Robbery is suspected as the motive The hand was dressed by a doctor and several shotgun pellets remained imbedded in the hand The incident occurred late Sunday evening with no immediate arrests reported.

John Krause Found Dead on His Farm
Waverly Iowa special report: former Bremer county sheriff John Krause was found dead from heart disease near a shed on his farm outside Waverly at noon Tuesday. He had not returned to town for lunch. Harm Arnholz discovered the body when told by Mrs. Krause. Surviving family includes widow and four children: Royal in Waterloo Lloyd in Waverly Leo who travels with an orchestra and Mrs Carlyle Bessmer of Perry. Krause was prominent in Bremer county Democratic politics.

In the January Term of Court the American National Red Cross sues the Plainfield American Legion post its officers and five acting trustees alleging that $1000 belonging to the Red Cross was diverted to the Legion Hall. Train Hits Truck In Narrow Escape On Fourth Street
Clarence Reinhart escaped serious injury after his truck was struck by a Rock Island train at 1010 on Fourth Street S. W. He drove onto the track while heading to the country for Reese and tried to turn aside but was too late. The car was badly damaged and Reinhart suffered only scratches and bruises.

Accident on No 218 injures Bassett man near here
Frank Idler of Bassett Iowa suffered a broken collar bone and facial cuts in a collision on No 218. He is resting at Mercy hospital after his northbound car collided with a Belle Plaine car traveling southward. The Belle Plaine driver and his female companion were uninjured.
