Mrs Johanna Peters oldest Bremer County pioneer was honored Monday at her daughter H C Detterding’s home. Relatives attended a midnight supper after a evening of memories. At 95 she remains mentally sharp and active, recalling events from fifty to sixty years ago. Born in Germany, she traveled to the U S in 1862 with a child, her husband died en route, later marrying John Peters. Children include John Readlyn Herman Readlyn and two daughters, Mrs Brockman Readlyn and Mrs Detterding Tripoli, plus younger generations and 32 great grandchildren.

William E. Davis 76 Dies in Sumner After Illness
William E. Davis 76 a longtime Sumner resident died at his home at 2 a m Saturday from complications after a year of poor health. Born September 9 1855 in Elkhorn NL he grew up in New Hampton Iowa. He married Anna Dawson in 1891 and worked as a stop buyer and real estate man. Surviving are his widow and son Earl, two brothers Walter and Leslie of Tacoma Wash, four sisters Julia Dorcas Davis Dunlap Ella Niles New Hampton and Mrs William Ebert McPherson Kan. Funeral services were held at 2 p m Sunday in the Methodist church with Rev P P Pease officiating. Interment followed in Wilson Grove cemetery.

Fire at the John Albrecht farm home in Readlyn caused heavy damage to the attic area and roof on Tuesday about 12 30 pm. The blaze injured clothing inside and totaled several hundred dollars. Nearby, a separate fire on the John Schmidt farm eight miles southwest destroyed a corn crib a barn and all livestock.

The December meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary at the Legion hall on December 8 had 17 members. They voted to send 5 to the department secretary for Christmas cheer for Veterans' hospitals and another 5 for disabled veterans, with 10 cents per capita or 5 for district dues. The group will sponsor the 1931 Christmas Tuberculosis Health Seals, a committee was appointed, and sale begins immediately. Lunch followed adjournment, hosted by Mrs. C. B. George Pinney Dies After Short Illness
George Pinney, age 80, died at his home Thursday morning after a few hours illness. He retired Wednesday evening in good health and was taken ill at midnight. Survived by son Harry Pinney of Montrose Colorado and daughter Margaret Wirt of Whipple Arizona. Funeral held at Kaiser chapel Monday at two, burial in Harlington cemetery. He had lived nearly seventy years in Bremer County.

City man recovers after kidney abscess surgery
Recovers From Operation Hans Johannsen of this city has been seriously ill for some time and after examination in Rochester and Iowa City underwent surgery at Mercy hospital for a kidney abscess. The operation was successful and he is improving steadily, with good chances of a full recovery.
