Community Chest near goal as drive closes in Tripoli

The 1965 Tripoli Community Chest has reached 95 percent of its $2,545 goal, with $2,416.25 on deposit at American Savings Bank. Five percent short remains, with donations still accepted at the bank or through the campaign office. Local workers and area organizations contribute to health and welfare causes, led by Kenneth Freyholtz and Chest officers Melvin Mun, Richard Buhr, Mrs. L. L. Moeller, Mrs. J. M. Snyder, and Freyholtz as campaign chair.

Cancer Society honors Bremer county groups at noon luncheon

Outstanding service citations were presented by the American Cancer Society to Bremer county rivals and organizations. Mrs. Shirley Berg Cedar Rapids outgoing area chairman and Rev. V Weidler chapter vice chair led the event November 29 in Waverly. Special awards recognized leadership and town awards for several local clubs and individuals. Donations by townships and towns totaled $5936.65 with Sumner and Waverly contributing the largest sums.

SCI Women chorus to appear on KWWL TV December 13

The State College of Iowa women’s chorus under Jane Mauck will air a 30 minute Christmas program at 5 p.m. December 13 on channel 7. Selections include Christmas Is a Birthday by Deutsch and Ceremon y of Carols by Britten. Bremer county members listed include Julie Skaar and others.

First Annual Meeting of Tripoli Nursing Home Held Monday

Tripoli Nursing Home Corp held its first annual meeting in Tripoli Town Hall. Dr. W G Goebel read the articles of incorporation. Melvin Krumm was re-elected treasurer and Ervin C Heinemann director for one year. Construction is progressing, but more pledges are needed. donors may deposit at American Savings Bank to receive a five percent certificate.

Tripoli Merchants Offer Three Christmas Drawings for Turkey Dinners

Tripoli merchants launch annual Christmas promotion starting Friday December 3 inviting shoppers to enter drawings for 45 turkey dinners. Drawings occur Saturday December 11 Saturday December 18 and Thursday December 23 with 15 dinners awarded each week. Winners announced at 3:00 p.m. at each business and must claim by 4:00 p.m. at Tripoli Town Hall. Santa visits December 11 and 18 with a kiddie show at Town Hall at 1:30 p.m. and free treats afterward.

VEW Home Here Takes on New Look in Tripoli Community Service

Tripoli VFW Post 136 members undertook a major upgrade to the VEW Home with exterior painting and a 20 by 40 foot addition. The post, active in 1965, donated flags to the schools and town hall, supplied uniforms for a color guard, managed football game parking and traffic, and aided Bremer county blood supplies with about 50 pints donated.

Denver Camper Mfg Firm to Relocate at Grinnell in January

Travel Home Inc plans to move manufacturing to Grinnell shortly after January 1966. Founder Vernon H. Herrmeyer, a former Waterloo chiropractor, created a pickup camper with a four foot expansion hinge system sleeping six. The family business will hire additional workers as production grows.

Cedar-Wapsie conference basketball resumes Friday with Tripoli visiting Fredericksburg in what could be a top test. Other games include Plainfield at Denver Dunkerton at Wapsie Valley and Turkey Valley at Janesville. The following Tuesday features Wapsie Valley at Tripoli Denver at Janesville Dunkerton at Plainfield and Fredericksburg at Turkey Valley. On Saturday December 4 Tripoli hosts Fayette with the Pantherettes opening at 7:00 p.m.

Duck Season Closes Today As Geese Remain Open

State Conservation Commission reminds waterfowl hunters that duck and coot shooting ends at sunset today with goose season continuing to December 10. Spokesman says duck and coot season was successful and that hunters filled the limit after a first mallard. Barring major storms, the last two weeks of goose season should offer good hunting.

Tripoli Panthers varsity basketball edged Orange Township 51 to 43 in a non conference game Tuesday. Jim Kuhrt led with 20 points and 11 free throws while coach Dave Ray praised the team’s defense and tightened ballhandling late. Tripoli B squad fell 34-32 as Ricky Wittenberg led with 16 points.

Denver Triumphs Over Tripoli In First THS Wrestling Match

Denver defeated Tripoli 40-8 in the THS wrestling opener with Duane Walther 9-5 over Curtis Neuendorf and Jack McCallun 12-1 over Bruce Gienau among several falls. Denver reserves won 21-0, and Hudson High School planned a match at Tripoli at 7:00 p.m. tonight.
