In Fairbank, Tripoli fell 18 to 7 as Fairbank surged with six runs in the first inning and heavy hitting throughout. Pieck and Finch had key two base hits, while Homan and Belknap contributed multiple hits for Fairbank. Kasemeier took the loss for Tripoli as Chambers umpired.
In a non league game at the 4-H club fair in Waverly last Wednesday afternoon Tripoli was defeated 10 to 5. Tripoli used several outside players due to regulars working. Key plays included a home run by M Rohde and three-base hits by Mundt and Webster.
Dunkerton defeated Waverly 6 to 3 in a Cedar Valley league game. Dunkerton pitcher Fisher held Waverly to three hits as the home team tallied a total of runs in Sunday action.
Mary Gleason age 6 daughter of Mrs George Gleason was fatally injured Friday evening when struck by an automobile driven by Don Campbell Minneapolis near the north city limits of Denver on highway 59. She was being taken to a party by her grandfather Ralph Phillips in company with two other Gleason children. Coroner F C Koch exonerated Campbell of criminal negligence. Funeral rites were held Monday at Matthias funeral home with burial in Harlington cemetery at Waverly beside her father.
Werner C. Wedemeier of Denver and Dora Hagenow of Readlyn were married Sunday at 1:30 PM in the Lutheran church. A reception followed at the bride’s parents home. The couple will reside on the groom’s family farm and move the parents to a small timber lot nearby.
This year’s sweet corn pack at the local factory is about half completed. By Tuesday night about 18,000 cases had been packed. The quality is very good and uniform. The plant has run long hours into the early hours of the next day and about sixty people are employed.
The Royal Neighbor lodge will hold its regular meeting at their hall on Tuesday evening September 5 at 8 30. All members are urged to attend as initiation ceremonies will be held.
A pretty wedding occurred Tuesday August 20 at St John’s Lutheran with a double ring ceremony led by Rev E A Hanff. Miss Adella Koch and Arnold Sell exchanged vows beside bridesmaids and groomsmen, a bridal party, and family attendents. A reception at the bride’s parents followed with forty relatives, yellow green and white decor, and a three tier cake. The couple plans a Chicago honeymoon then to live with the groom’s parents.
Local residents joined a birthday party at the home of H A Dettmerring in Crane Creek for Donald Dettmering. Nearby visits included Ross Kelsey and family in New Hampton, and Harold Bierie with family in Oran. Guests and relatives from Des Moines and Waterloo also stopped by for short visits through the week.
Bremer county NRA committees representing most towns except Readlyn met in Tripoli Friday evening. County chairman J. Q. Lauer of Waverly called the session to discuss Recovery Act topics and pending state guidance on industry codes. Attendees included Walter Heyer Claude Heyer Sumner C H Howe Janesville Howard Stevenson Howard Roach Plainfield John Schoof C A Brause Denver J Q Lauer Bert Morf Lee O Peacook Tripoli.
St. John s congregation at Crane Creek will hold its annual mission festival next Sunday September 3. The morning service at 10 o clock will be led by Rev H Wendt of Waverly and the afternoon service at 2 o clock will feature Rev C Fischer of Bennington as speaker.
A regular American Legion meeting will be held at the Legion hall on Monday evening, September 4. Good attendance is desired due to important business and the election of officers. Plan to be there.
The fall term of the district court will open Tuesday September 5 at Waverly Judge Clark will preside A crowded docket includes numerous cases noted for trial across Law and Equity divisions along with probate and will contest matters involving local individuals and firms.
A list of cases from Iowa courts including the Town of Sumner against Walter Levenz on a peace disturbance appeal and multiple State of Iowa prosecutions for assault false pretenses embezzlement larceny and illegal liquor transport plus matters involving bank deposits and equity with parties including J F Brayton E N Origin Geo J Kaiser and the Dietz and Robertson families.
John Swenson age 74 died at his Ottumwa home Thursday after months with cancer. Born January 24 1859 in Malmont Illinois he married Selma Darrell in Clarinda February 20 1888. Survived by widow two sons Clarence and Ernest of Ottumwa three daughters Mrs Glen Phillips Mrs D W Fahrenholz and Mrs Milton Fangmeier, two brothers and two sisters, eleven grandchildren. Short services at Kaiser funeral home followed by burial at Hyland Center.
Miss Martha Kennedy daughter of Mrs Martha Kennedey of Marshalltown formerly of this city married Henry C Sehrage of Parkersburg Sunday morning at the pastor Dr E D Hulls residence. The bride a graduate of Waverly High and Waterloo comptometer school has worked at Baths in Waterloo. the groom is a Parkersburg High School graduate.
Last week petitions circulated in the city urged building a new post office and were sent to Congressman A. C. Wilford. J. Q. Lauer led the campaign noting broad local support, while site selection will be determined by government officials due to location requirements.
Orin B. Green faced Justice of the Peace F W Smith on charges of assault and battery against Newt Marsh. Marsh says the incident occurred August 16. Defense witnesses included Mrs Green and Geo Luesenhop. Marsh’s attorney was Mrs Etta Baskins. The case was taken under amolishment by the court.
Health champions Richard Eggleston of Washington township and Margaret Harrington of Polk township scored 97.7 points to lead Bremer county 4-H health judging. They advance to the Iowa State fair contest in Des Moines this week. Stanley Scully and Robert Eggleston tied for second with 97.5 points.
D W Woodruff transfers from McCormick Deering to Decorah as outside salesman and Al Knoche of Cedar Falls will replace him. S A Munger pleads not guilty before Judge Kepler with no attorney. F J Wilharm granted until September 1 to plea. Francis Cretzmeyer leaves for Chicago on vacation from Carnation Milk Products plant. Mollie Ann Mether visits from University hospital Iowa City to her parents nearby.
