The Tripoli Community Schools outline free and reduced price meals for families unable to pay. Parents may submit applications year round. forms help determine eligibility based on income, family size, and any hardships. Confidential data are used solely to decide lunch eligibility.
A Sunday afternoon Jaycee sponsored pull contest awarded cash prizes across multiple classes. Winners included Lowell Busch 335 ft 2 in, Buss 335 ft 1 in, Schwan 321 ft 4 in, Lohmann 313 ft 8 in, Schuldt 310 ft 9 in, Hesse 309 ft 6 in, Thurm 309 ft 7 in, and Ingersoll 311 ft 4 in among others, with 67 entries and total prizes around several thousand pounds.
Two director terms expire at Tri poli Community School next month. Incumbents W. H. Heffernan of district two and William Burrow of district one seek another three year term. Both are unopposed on the ballot as filing deadline has passed. Election day is Monday September 13.
Funeral services for Leroy Happel 50 of Readlyn will be held at St. Peter Lutheran church in Denver at 2 p.m. today. He died Monday in a fiery crash on Highway 63 north of Waterloo. Survivors include his wife Margaret, a daughter, a son, his mother, three brothers and five sisters.
E L Dancer of Kramer Crittenden Produce was hospitalized after his egg truck overturned east of Shell Rock. He was treated at Mercy Hospital Waverly and released the next day. The Ruhr Chevrolet Buick egg truck from Tripoli was a total loss.
The Nite Owl bowling league will hold a short meeting Thursday night August 26 at 8:30 before league bowling begins at 9 p.m. Everyone is urged to be on time for the meeting at the bowling alley.
St Johns E and R church at Siegel invites the public to a chicken and ham supper on Wednesday September 1 starting at 5 PM. Menu includes mashed potatoes gravy buttered corn fruit salad sauerkraut pickles rolls coffee and pies. Bazaar also held. Adults $1.50 children under 12 75c.
Tripoli Community School welcomes six new teachers this week as classes begin for the 1571 pol year. One retiree returns to fill service obligations. The staff includes eight grade language arts and twelfth grade English assignments. A part time reading and mathematics teacher joins second grade after earning a BA from Upper Iowa College and four years of teaching in Waco and Grand Rapids. A guidance counselor with a BA from Buena Vista College and MA from Western State College brings six years of experience from Waukee and Ledyard.
Tripoli seniors plan a Wednesday September 1 meeting with a 6 p.m. pot luck supper. Cards will provide entertainment after the business portion. All seniors are invited to attend.
Twilight golf event at Maple Hills Country Club set for Saturday August 28 with a 5 30 p m partner draw. Participants should bring their own meat for grilling and no reservations are required.

Joe Snelling, 84, played in the senior men’s golf tournament at Waverly on August 14 and received a trophy as the eldest golfer entered in the event.
Kim Kehe won the 27-hole championship flight in the second annual men’s city golf tournament at Maple Hills Country Club. The 1971 Tripoli High School graduate carded 39 33 38 for a 110 total, finishing two strokes ahead of runner-up Tom Larson.
The Denver library's summer reading program under Mrs Arlin Richmann drew 114 children with 92 at four Thursday story hours. Chiefs named for tribes honored readers with totals up to 210 books. notable top readers include Spotted Eagle Brad Boehmke Red Jacket Debbie Kruse and South Wind Terri Brettmann.
Maple Hills Country Club hosted its first invitational on Saturday with 123 players. Bob Olds of Waterloo won the top prize a portable TV and tied the course record with 33 in the opening round finishing 107 overall. He plans to return next year.
Tripoli Fire Department aided Sumner in a farm blaze on the Virgil Schwabe farm three miles east and two north of Tripoli. Walter Craft owns the property. One barn burned, a second sustained damage but was saved.
A group rummage sale is scheduled at the Robert Sass man home on Friday August 27 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event details appear in a local notice with readable timing.
All middle school boys trying out for junior high football must attend physical examinations Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the high school gym.
Vernon S. Meyer announces SSA representatives will visit Waterloo Courthouse Assembly Room on September 14 and 28 from 9 to 11 AM, Waverly City Hall on September 16, and Sumner City Hall on September 16, for local residents to seek services.
Qualifiers include Kim Kehe 39 33 38 for 110 and Tom Larsen 36 36 40 for 112 with Mel Krumm 38 38 39 for 115 and others. The remaining six flights played 18 holes with three and four winners named in each flight. Flight winners are listed below.
Deer hunters may obtain license applications now but must wait to submit. The Iowa Conservation Commission will accept shotgun and muzzleloader forms from 8 a.m. September 1 to 4:30 p.m. September 15. Postmarks do not count. Applications received outside the window will be returned, and after September 15 a drawing will determine license recipients.
Bremer County's Livestock Judging Team won top honors at the North Iowa Fair on Tuesday August 17. Members include Robert Lindner Waverly Loren Foelske and David Kalainoff Denver Layton Tiedt Readiyn. Coaches are Dennis Juhl and David Joachim of Waverly. Kalainoff tied for first and earned second on oral reasons. Foelske placed fourth among twenty eight entrants.
