Tripoli community plans to open Wednesday with about 810 students enrolled. Registration occurred Monday and Tuesday as 240 in grades 9–12, 445 in K–6, and 125 in Grade 7. Bus routes stay similar to last year and kindergarteners in town dismiss at 3:20 pm. A preschool workshop is set for Monday prior to classes.
Sunday services marked the 100th anniversary of St. Pauls Siegel with 986 attendees. The day included morning afternoon and evening sermons by pastors from nearby towns and a noon meal. Special thanks were given to assisting churches and Tri Poli schools for chairs.
The Denver Community School opens August 26 with teacher workshops Aug 23 to 25. Lunch tickets price 2.00 for five days and 8.00 for twenty days. A large list of new staff across various grades and subjects is announced, plus bus drivers custodians and secretaries for the year.
Tripoli Jaycees sponsor a tractor pulling contest this Sunday August 22 starting at 1 00 p m on the blacktop street on 1st Avenue N E Five weight classes offer 250 in cash prizes four prizes per class 20 15 10 and 5 Entry is 5 per tractor Admission charged
St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Siegel announces its annual ham and steak supper for Tuesday September 21. Proceeds support church programs and community missions.
Erika Ed Arbknecht 73 died in Allen Memorial Hospital Waterloo after a long illness. Funeral services set for Thursday at 2 p.m. at John Lutheran Church in Waterloo with burial in the local cemetery. He was born March 28 1898 in Bremer County to Mr and Mrs John Arbknecht and was a painter. He married the former O’Connell of Waterloo and is survived by his wife a stepdaughter three sisters and other relatives. Funeral arrangements are with Ernest rural Funeral Home.
Army Specialist Four Roger D. McBride 21 son of John A. and Mrs. McBride of Ionia received the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service as a clerk in the 39th Engineer Battalion 511th Engineer Company near Chu Lai Vietnam. He also earned the Good Conduct Medal for exemplary conduct and returned to the States July 2nd discharged July 3rd and now attends Hawkeye Tech.
The Tripoli Food Locker will open on August 25 and 26 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. only.
A rummage sale will be held Friday August 20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Don Heim residence 200 1st Ave Northeast Tripoli.
Voters in Tripoli will choose two directors as terms for William Burrow and W H Heffernan expire. Nomination papers due by August 24 with no filings yet reported. Hawkeye Institute of Technology terms also up for vote in October, with August 23 filing deadline for Joint County Superintendent office.
Tickets on sale for the Bremer County Quality Pork Producers Association barbecue at South Park Tripoli on Saturday August 28 starting at 5 30 p m. The meal features barbecued pork loin and trim mings with proceeds benefiting the association and tickets are available from board members or the Bremer County Extension Office for 1 75.
A group sale is planned at the L L Moeller home on Saturday August 21 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Items include miscellaneous goods suitable for early shoppers and neighbors. Proceeds are for household cleanup and local donations.
Maple Hills Country Club will host its first men s Invitational golf tournament this Saturday August 21 with over 800 in prizes. Championship five prizes and four prizes in each lower flight plus special prizes for closest to the pin on holes three and six. Entries capped at 120 with 7 00 a m tee off. Lunch available in the clubhouse and an evening smorgasbord 5 30 to 9 00 p m. Smorgasbord admission prices listed on page five.
Funeral services for Lorenz E. Sell 49 were at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church West Liberty with Rev. Leo Widdel officiating. Burial followed at Grace Lutheran Cemetery Tripoli after a 3:39 prayer service at Rettig Funeral Home Tripoli. He died of a heart attack at Louis Rich Foods West Liberty. He was born August 1 1922 in Tripoli and married Arlene Bang July 10 1941. He is survived by his wife a daughter Kaye Swart a granddaughter and several step relatives.
Kim Kehe of Tripoli established a new Maple Hills Country Club course record Monday afternoon by shooting 33 on the par 36 3172 yard layout. He birdied the 4th 5th and 7th holes and dropped a 20 foot putt for a rare third on five, surpassing the previous record of 34 shared by John Poock and Mel Krumm.
The Iowa Highway Patrol driver license examiners will be at Tripoli town hall on Saturday August 21 from 8 a.m. to noon. Renewals available until noon while written and driving tests run only until 11 a.m. The team will return to Tripoli September 18.
Mel Krumm finished tied for second in the Waverly Senior Men's golf tournament held Saturday. Arthur Cooper of Dubuque won the 18 hole championship with a 72, one stroke ahead of Krumm who posted a 73 in the 50-54 age division. Cooper and Krumm led in 50-54 while other Tripoli players Eldo Kehe and Joe Snelling also competed.
The first ladies city golf tournament at Maple Hills Country Club concluded with 49 players in a nine hole handicap format. Poock won the championship flight with a 43 and an 8 stroke handicap finishing 35 total. Margaret Fink and Carolyn Krumm were tied for second after a one hole playoff.
A farm fire on the Minnie Schumacher farm two miles north of Tripoli Tuesday evening August 17 engulfed the main barn and most of the milking equipment. The Tripoli and Frederika departments saved other structures while a poultry house suffered extensive damage. Cause tied to an electrical fault near a milk cooler, per tenant Steven Schwemm.
