Tripoli area schools open with about 840 students expected in grades K-12 and 955 more in upper grades. Pre-registration covered fees for books, lunch, milk, and insurance as teachers prepare for a smooth first day. Classes begin at 8:30 for the junior senior high and 8:45 for elementary, with buses at 7:30. Kindergarten in town dismissed at 3:15, country kindergarten at 11:15, and town kids not arriving before 8:15. A preschool teacher workshop Aug 22-23 introduces four new junior senior staff and one new elementary teacher.

Readlyn approves 59 thousand dollar library project
Readmunity Library trustees signed an agreement with Ell Lockard Construction Waterloo to build a new Readlyn community library at a cost of 59743 dollars. Work starts next week with completion set for a future date. The library will house 2464 square feet on Readlyn Street and is funded by a 10000 dollar Lindstrom Foundation grant a city grant and a federal grant.

Tripoli Community school board seeks voter approval for a 140000 addition to the junior senior high building adding a 9000 square foot shop drawing art and electronics rooms plus office and storage. Remodeling includes converting the shop area to a wrestling gym and athletic spaces. A public hearing is Aug 30 at 8 PM in the high school gym. One mill levy would fund the 20 year project.

Local Police Chief Resigns Duties Here on Sept 1
Kermit Bjorge, chief of police for Tripoli since November 1967, tendered his resignation in a letter to Mayor George W. Barnes dated August 15. The resignation takes effect September 1 after he served as town marshal since November 20, succeeding the retiring Arnold Ducker. Bjorge, an ex Air Force member, has not announced future plans.
