School doors open Monday August 25 with about 825 students enrolled across grades 9-12 7-8 and kindergarten. Bus routes and pre registration logistics outlined. staff list includes Marquardt as superintendent and Miller as junior senior principal along with numerous teachers across elementary and high school.
A list details part time secretaries for the elementary and high school, heads cooks at both sites, cooks for both kitchens, and custodians at the high school and elementary buildings. The hot lunch menu will be published as a courtesy in this newspaper with the first menu appearing elsewhere.
Marine Corporal Donald Wayne Stufflebeam 22 of Tripoli died of cardiac arrest Friday at Camp Pendleton California while awaiting overseas duty. A 1966 Denver High School graduate he was a standout football player on the All Conference second team. Survived by parents four brothers two sisters and grandparents. Memorials requested for Denver High School Football Department.
St. Pauls Lutheran church Readlyn will mark its 60th anniversary on Sunday August 24 with 8:00 and 10:00 a m services featuring Rev Alfred Ernest of Lincoln Nebraska as guest speaker. A 2:30 pm service will feature Rev Fred Ilen president of the Iowa District East. Readlyn Park will host a noon dinner served by St. Pauls ladies. Public invited.
Bremer County Board of Supervisors hired W. H. Jorgenrud as county engineer at the August 18 meeting. The 44 year old Iowa graduate will take over October 15, after resigning Earl H. Welshons to become Dubuque County Engineer. Jorgenrud, former Franklin County Engineer, has also served as Cerro Gordo Engineer and design engineer with the Iowa Highway Commission. He is married with a son at Iowa State University.
Hans Schult filed nomination papers Wednesday as a Tripoli district No. 4 candidate for school board. He faces Duane Holm who collected papers the prior week. Also contested is the director at large seat with Robert R. Lauer opposing Kenniston Hoppenworth near Tripoli. Election day is Monday September 8.
A cooperative summer program funded by Area VII Title VI and the Butler and Bremer County Boards of Education concluded. L. A. Miller, Butler-Bremer County Superintendent, says the six week clinic provided intensive individual therapy for 25 children in Bremer County and nearby Butler County. Carol Tabor Ken Wilson and Harold Webb led the clinical staff in the second year of operation after strong 1968 reception.
A small quantity of flu vaccine is now available, according to Dr. W. B. Weeber. The notice implies limited stock and prompts eligible recipients to seek vaccination.
Bremer County Pork Producers will hold their second annual Pork Loin Barbecue at Tripoli South Park on Saturday September 6 starting at 4 30 p m. A full meal will be served. Admission is by advance ticket sale only available from Bremer County Extension office Tripoli Food Locker FS Services or Lloyd Kammeyer.
Funeral services for Fred J. Rathe Jr., 60, will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church Tripoli with a 1:45 prayer. Interment in church cemetery. He died Tuesday Aug 19 at Allen Memorial Hospital after four weeks as a patient. Survived by widow Nora two sons Larry Waterloo and Donald Waverly one daughter Mary Jane at home a brother Herman Tripoli and two sisters Mrs. Wm Peters Readlyn and Mrs. Herman Knief Waverly Route 3.
Iowa Highway Patrol license examining team served 87 people during the morning session at Tripoli town hall. They issued 47 operator licenses 14 chauffeur licenses 17 written tests and 9 driving tests. Six instruction permits and seven temporary driving permits were issued. The team will return to Tripoli on Saturday September 20.
Mrs Malinda Fink was admitted to Mercy Hospital in Waverly Saturday evening for treatment.
Fred Fink came home Monday following a weeklong hospital stay at Allen Memorial in Waterloo after being hospitalized last Wednesday.
Virgil Weidler entered the Veterans Hospital at Iowa City on Monday. His address is 8th E. 47.
Troy Vaughn five year old son of Mr and Mrs B J Vaughn Cedar Falls remains in the intensive care ward at Allen hospital Waterloo after a bicycle wreck last Tuesday morning in front of their home at 210 E Clair St He was struck by a pickup truck and suffered a broken leg brain concussion and severe bruises His condition showed some improvement Sunday Mrs Vaughn formerly Mary Kay Sommer of Tripoli
A meeting is set for 8:30 p m on Wednesday August 27 at Tri Poli Town Hall to discuss forming a Bremer County Dairy Promotion group. Dairy farmers and others with dairying interests are invited as Bremer County known as the Dairy Spot of Iowa has no organized promotion group.
St John’s American Lutheran Church in Crane Creek offers a Steak Ham supper on Thursday August 28 with serving from 4 30 p m. Adults pay 1 50 and children 12 and under 75 cents. Menu includes steak or ham mashed potatoes gravy sauerkraut peas salad cranberries relish tray rolls pie coffee milk.
Thirty five boys started the 1969 season at Tripoli High School with Ray Walsh as head coach. Two daily workouts focused on conditioning as pads arrived midweek. Nine returning lettermen include seniors Al Buchholz Dave Boeckmann Bruce Platte Mike Harms and juniors Lowell Kuecker Willis Hildebrandt Steve Schumacher Paul Garner Barry Boeckmann. Walsh is optimistic about line depth and backfield speed despite weight losses from graduation.
Mary Ann Buchholz of Tripoli, daughter of Mr and Mrs Edwin Buchholz, recently completed a 63 day study tour in Europe with 21 University of Northern Iowa peers. They studied at Oxford England and Vienna Austria visiting Greece Italy England the Vatican Germany Austria Poland Czechoslovakia Russia and France earning six social science credits. She works at Allen Memorial Hospital Waterloo and attends UNI while pursuing a nursing degree. She is a 1964 graduate of Tripoli Community School and 1967 graduate of Allen School of Nursing. She fields an above average team this year. Recap Turkey Valley led Cedar-Wapsie last year at 5-0. Dunkerton and Denver tied second at 3-2.
Girls summer softball program at Tripoli High School announced by coach Dave Van Ahn lists eleven letterwinners: Sue Pleggenkuhlie Carol Spier Glenda Matthias Connie Matthias Janell Poock Diane Frahm Colleen Marquardt Karen Krumm Pat Schmidt Mary Schmidt and Linda Gaede.

The Tripoli Women's Bowling Association held its annual fall meeting August 13 at the Tripoli Bowl In. Committees named include Publicity, Auditing, Legislative, Budget and Finance, Nominating, and Banquet. Marlene Snelling named delegate to the state convention, with Jean Magnall as alternate. The group approved 32 weeks of bowling and announced three cash prizes donated by Tripoli Hardware for high games with $20 for men, $15 for women, and $5 for juniors aged 10 to 12.
F. F. Carstensen of Tripoli received word that his brother Harry Carstensen 69 Linn Grove died during the night Tuesday Funeral services will be held from Rettig Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Sunday Another brother Dr A B Carstensen Linn Grove also survives
