Enrollment on opening day shows 821 students at Tripoli Community Schools, down from 854 last year. Elementary grades total 437 pupils, junior high 125, and high school 259. Grade counts range from kindergarten 59 to twelfth grade 63, with a full grade breakdown provided.
A Hunger Hike is set for September 14 across northeastern Iowa with Sumner as the start point. Hikers meet at Sumner City Park at 7 a.m. for registration and begin the route Sumner to Kipoli to Buck Creek and back.
John E and R Church will hold a chicken and ham supper on Wednesday September 3 at 5 00 p m The menu includes chicken or ham mashed potatoes gravy sauerkraut corn salad rolls pickles milk coffee and pies Admission is 150 for adults and 75 cents for children under 12 Proceeds support church activities.
Paul Bremer left Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo after a weeklong eye surgery and recovery. He arrived home Monday to rest and regain strength.
Chairman Harold Mueller of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation County Committee announced county price support rates for the 1969 crop soybeans at an average of 2.21 dollars per bushel. The national average is 2.25 per bushel for No. 1 grade soybeans, with loan dates moved up one month to aid harvest time storage and marketing. Final date for price support loans is May 1970 and producer loan intent notices are due by June 30 1970.
Steve Tegtmeier, 20, was driver in a one car accident on the Bremer-Chickasaw county line road near Iowa 63 Sunday evening. Passengers Ronald Hartman, 19, of Readlyn and Dennis Miller, 18, of Fairbank suffered bruises but were not hospitalized. Tegtmeier faced a charge of failure to have control of his vehicle.

Jeffrey Klein resumed after a tonsillectomy performed at Scholtz hospital in Waterloo. He was discharged Thursday and is reported in good condition.
Tripoli volunteer Fire Department hosts its annual Firemen's Dance in the Riviera ballroom Janesville on Friday August 29. Music by Bill and his Country Blueboys. Advance tickets are on sale with all proceeds benefiting the firemen’s fund.
Diverted acres under the 1969 Feed Grain Program will be released for grazing starting September 1 according to Harold Mueller chair of the Bremer County ASC. The permission is for grazing only and excludes green chopping hay or harvesting any crop. Disaster relief haying permission ends August 31, 1969 and regulations revert to grazing only.
Tripoli seniors gather Wednesday September 3 for a 6 p.m. pot luck supper. Cards will provide entertainment and all seniors are welcome.

Mrs. Malinda Fink returned Saturday from Mercy hospital in Waverly after a week of hospitalization.
Bremer County Pork Producers announce advance tickets for the second annual pork loin barbecue on Saturday September 6 at 4 30 p m in Tripoli south park. Tickets available at Bremer County Extension office Tripoli Food Locker FS Services or from Lloyd Kammeyer.
The Bremer County corn yield study plots show 1969 maturity 9 to 10 days later than 1968, with northeastern Iowa field maturity the latest since 1960. Delays stem from wet soils, weed-induced nutrient stress, leaf blight infections, and possible early September freezes threatening yields up to 35 percent in some fields.
A Social Security Administration district representative will visit Waverly at the Court House on September 8 and 29 and Sumner at city hall on September 10 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Vernon S. Meyer, district manager, says residents may also call the Waterloo district office at 525 W. 5th St. 234-1554. Waterloo office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Mondays and 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
Iowa State University held commencement exercises in Ames on August 22 with 762 graduates. Among the degree recipients were Virginia Kerr Hoepner earning an M.S. in Education and Douglas L. Bell receiving a degree in Industrial Administration.
Mr and Mrs Herb Blume attend the 24th annual National Society of Public Accountants convention at Century Plaza Los Angeles August 18 to 22. Herb is among 256 elected voting delegates. Iowa members cannot use the title public accountants due to a 1929 Iowa law.
Tripoli Community Schools will be closed Monday September 1 for Labor Day per Superintendent Howard Marquardt. Classes resume Tuesday at the usual time. Post office hours are limited with incoming mail processed for box holders and waterloo couriers delivered to lock boxes. no rural delivery or counter service. Local businesses also close for the holiday.
The Tripoli Jaycees announce their annual membership drive meeting for Thursday August 28 at 7 p.m. at the VFW. Interested men aged 21 to 36 may contact Allen Kuecker before 4 p.m. Thursday.
The Music Mothers hold their first meeting of the season on Wednesday September 3 at 8 p.m. in the home economics room. Retiring officers will be hostesses.
Bremer County Highway Department reports Laverty Sprayers of Indianola will arrive around September 1 to apply the second dust control treatment at multiple county locations. The Iowa Civil Defense Division approved Bremer County flood relief for 1968, advancing to Emergency Preparedness in Denver for payment totaling 19,875.00 as partial damage compensation. Bremer County also seeks 15,000.00 for flood damage to Federal Aid Secondary system from June 1969.
Funeral services for Sophie Schwemm, 94, who died August 23 at Allen Memorial hospital, were held Tuesday afternoon at Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. A. C. Koengeter officiating. Interment followed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church cemetery, Siegel. Survived by two daughters Mrs. Gustav Brase of Frederika and Mrs. Martin Schweer of Readlyn, and three sons Henry of Waverly and Ted and Carl of route 3 Waverly.
The THS student council announces a back-to-school dance on Friday August 29 from 7 30 to 11 00 p m in the high school gym. 1968 69 yearbooks will be handed out and the class of 1969 seniors are invited along with junior and senior high students. Admission is 25 cents.
Mrs. Bill Nicoll was hospitalized at Allen Memorial hospital after a motorcycle accident at their Tripoli home Tuesday noon. She remains in intensive care with broken ribs and a punctured lung reported from the mishap.
Tripoli Red Sox won the Elma Invitational baseball tournament over the weekend. They beat Fredericksburg 9-4 in the opening round with Bob Bailey pitching, then rallied to beat host Elma 8-7 in the final as Duane Bremer earned the win. Dan Biesterfelt started and Bremer finished as Tripoli built six runs in the fourth inning. The team notched its fifth straight victory.
Nashua's softball team captured the 12 team Frederika Invitational, winning the championship 2-1 over Denver. Early results saw Waverly 4-3 over Tripoli and Janesville 3-2 Readlyn, with Nashua defeating Janesville 6-1 in the second round and advancing to beat Frederika 5-3 in the semifinals.
THS started practice with 23 players under coach Stan Miller. The squad, list includes Poock Krumm Gaede Spier Schmidt Matthias Matthias Marquardt Pleggenkuhle Finney Buls and others, opens with a 10 game fall schedule starting Thursday at Turkey Valley at 4 15 p.m. Non conference games marked by asterisk and sectional tournament starts September 20.
