The Siegel Lutheran Church near Tripoli Iowa marks its 100 year milestone with three Sunday services featuring speakers Pastor Indevy from Brooklyn Wisconsin at 9 a.m. sermon by HH Klein of Fort Wayne at 9:15 p.m. A slide show on 190 years of grace, history of the Siegel-Tri area, and Liturgy by Rev. J. Waverly accompany the events. The church organized on January 1 1871 with 25 charter members.

Lorenz Sell, 49, died at his West Liberty home from a heart attack Tuesday evening August 10. Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. August 13 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in West Liberty with visitation 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Ridgitt funeral home in Tripoli followed by a brief prayer service. Burial will be in Grace Lutheran Cemetery, Tripoli, with Sni der Funeral Home of West Liberty in charge.

The Bremer County Board of Supervisors announced a county landfill will open Monday August 16 from 9 am to 4 pm daily. Located 3 miles north and 4 miles west of the junction of US 3 and US 63, the 40 acre site is rezoned for landfill use and state health approval. Only two full time staff will supervise, payments via landfill tickets, and cities such as Waverly Plainfield Sumner and Denver may contract in writing to use the facility.

John J. Schnieders of Tripoli won the 1971 Bremer County Cookout King title at the Waverly County Fair sponsored by the Bremer County Farm Bureau and Quality Pork Producers. Five contestants competed with Mike Schnieders taking lamb and second overall, Bill White winning novelty and third, while Ed Fryk and Albert Manning also competed in the Park division. The winners advance to the State Cookout King Contest at the Des Moines State Fair on August 25.
