Tripoli's Red Sox meet Fredericksburg here Sunday in the rubber game of a three game set as part of a final ABC tournament tuneup. Fredericksburg will challenge Tripoli after a 5-1 opening win and a 6-4 loss in the series.
Frederika Public School will open on Monday August 29 as announced by Supt. C D Cosman. The 1955 56 staff includes one new teacher Mrs Frieda Johns in home economics typing shorthand and science. Registration is August 29 with classes resuming August 30 and hot lunch charges remain 25 cents. Approximately 145 students are expected 55 in high school and 90 in grades.
Five 4 H teams demonstrated at the county fair with all members earning blue ribbons. County representatives for the Iowa State Fair include Norbert Pruisner Walter Ruth Jackson Beavers and Wendell Matthias with Larry Strottman from Maxfield Rangers. Duane Sickles Lauren Mills Maxfield and Fred Thoms Jick Juhl Townline head to the Dairy Cattle Congress. Dennis Blume Sumner Champs also received a blue ribbon.
E G Michael was informed last week that his sister Mrs George Hidder of Heena Syria died July 24 at a Damascus hospital. Hidder fostered him after their parents died when he was a child. They separated 42 years ago when he emigrated to the United States. She was over 70.
The 4 H and FFA market livestock sale at the end of the fair sold 170 head of beef sheep and hogs for 17584.15 dollars. Thirty two buyers bought 71 head of beef at 23.90 per cwt a mix of sheep bringing 20.90 per cwt and hogs at 16.20 per cwt. Grand champion calf shown by Gordon Happel sold to Fred's Super Valu for 40 dollars per cwt. Highest selling lamb at 23.25 per cwt bought from Dick Juhl. Champion pen of three hogs shown by Stanley Saunders sold at 19 dollars per cwt.
Tripoli will start the new school year on Monday August 29 with a half day for registration and classes beginning August 30. Eldon R. Shriver superintendent announces full accreditation for Tripoli High School and a broad curriculum plus extensive extracurriculars and five bus routes. Prospective new students may contact the superintendent for details.
Three Tripoli youths Gary Stromer Lillian Fuchs and Paul Fuchs will join 4 000 delegates from the United States and Canada at the 12th biennial convention of the International Luther League of the American Lutheran Church at Texas A M College College Station Texas August 23 28 They represent St Johns Lutheran Church Crane Creek where Dr Em Fuchs is pastor The event features choirs a brass ensemble an anniversary pageant a Texas Day and a western town on campus as part of the churchs 25th anniversary year.
Mr and Mrs Virgil Bruns spent the weekend with her brother Allan Sell a patient at Great Lakes Naval Training Hospital Great Lakes Illinois He is improving.
Mr and Mrs W C Buckley of Marshalltown and Mr and Mrs W A Buckley hosted a birthday celebration Saturday evening at Grundy Center for the birthdays of W C Buckley and Michael Buckley. Attendees included Michael Ann David Ricky and Bobbie.
St John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Douglas township between Tripoli and Plainfield marks its 50th anniversary this Sunday after Saturday night services. Former pastors speak during a weekend of services led by current pastor Rev Richard Barrack and guest speakers including Rev Henry Dirks and Rev Conrad Rebelein.
State Superintendent J. C. Wright will be the featured speaker at a public meeting of Tripoli’s citizens committee on school reorganization at the high school next Tuesday at 8 p.m. The event includes a full committee report on study progress and is open to residents of Tripoli and surrounding areas. Dr. L. J. Magnall chairs both committees leading the study. Wright’s talk will address reorganization as Iowa’s final authority on school structure.
Tripoli's Rag time ridden by Dale Schmidt won at Tipton and placed third at Independence in county fair meets. Walter Sommer owns Rag time. Next race for Tripoli is Decorah on Sunday.
Tripoli High School football practice begins Wednesday August 24 under Coach John Mullen. Equipment issue set for Tuesday August 23 from 9 AM to 12 noon and 1 PM to 3 PM. Junior high football for seventh to ninth graders starts after school opens. first varsity contest with Sumner is September 9 at home.
Freida A H Johns of Frederika is among 34 students enrolled in the secondary education work shop at Iowa State Teachers College. The group studies projects on junior high and high school teaching.
Bremer county 4 H fair closed Thursday morning after three successful days highlighted by the annual market sale. Competitors from Tripoli and nearby areas earned top honors in cattle, swine, and booth competitions. Notable champions included Ayrshire dairy winner Robert Zander and Holstein herd winner Paul Reiter, with multiple breed champs such as Darrell Pals, Romaine Orth, Ronnie Leistikow, Larry Strottman, and Wendell Matthias.
Shirley Piehl who will marry Leo Larden of Greene on August 28 was honored at a miscellaneous shower in Waterloo Monday evening. Beverly Mueller, Helen Krueger and Shirley Murphy hosted. sixteen guests attended and prizes were awarded.
Mr. and Mrs. P. L. Crittenden visited his brother Carl L. Crittenden a patient at Iowa Methodist Hospital Des Moines after he suffered a stroke Friday morning. His condition is improving.
Mrs. E J Pavelec underwent an emergency appendectomy Monday morning at Sumner hospital. Her condition is reported as very good.
A panel of 50 trial jurors has been chosen for the September term of district court announced by Mary C. Loucks. Jurors report September 12 at 10 a.m. in Waverly. The term starts September 6 at 1 30 p.m. with Judge William P. Butler presiding. list includes residents from Fairbank Janesville Tripoli and Waverly among others.
The Wedemeier family reunion gathered 60 people at a Denver city park for a noon picnic. Attendees came from Tripoli Readlyn Waterloo Oran Clarion Waverly Shell Rock Denver and Campbell Hill TI. Officers elected: president Raymond Wedemeier Waverly vice president Werner Wedemeier Waverly and secretary treasurer Mrs. Gerald Harken Shell Rock.
