4-H Demonstration Rams Selected at Tripoli Fair
Four 4-H girls were chosen last week at Tripoli High School to demonstrate at county and state fairs. Winners include Velda Pothast and Patricia Michael of BeSquare, Mary Kerdus and Katherine Boomer of Jolly Jacksons, and Carolyn Lahmann with Joyce Schnurstein of Wapsie Whirlwinds. Additional junior entries and special demonstrators were noted from Sumner Teeners and Tens Teens, with judges listing blue, red, and white ribbon placements.

Deadline Near for P&E Queen Contest Entries
Bremer county residents are reminded that the poultry and Egg Days Queen contest has only three days left for entries. As of Wednesday morning, only four contestants had filed at the Leader office. Entry forms and a photo may be submitted, with eligibility requiring entrants be unmarried, 17 by Aug. 15, and a Bremer county resident. The queen and attendant selection is set for Monday at 5 in Tripoli Town Hall, followed by a luncheon hosted by the Tripoli Woman's Club. a queen ceremony begins at 7:30, and the parade is slated for Tuesday at 2 p.m.

Wapsie Sportsmen Fish Fry Adopts Big Day at Tripoli Park
The Wapsie Sportsmen’s club announces its 13th annual fish fry on Sunday evening, Aug. 7 at Tripoli Ballpark from 5 to 8 p.m. A 1,000 pounds of walleye fillets will be served, with over $500 in merchandise prizes drawn at 8 p.m. Local help is sought for picnic tables and the event features the Little German Band.

Funeral Services Held for Anton B Jessen 62
Funeral services were conducted for Anton B Jessen at Locke Funeral Home and St Ansgar Lutheran Church Waterloo for the Waverly resident who died July 27 at Allen Memorial Hospital Waterloo at age 62. Burial followed in Garden of Memories Cemetery Waterloo. He was born March 31 1898 in Denmark and married Edna Thuesen March 1 1930. He farmed near Waterloo then near Denver and was active with Farm Bureau Dairy Board and 4 H. Survived by wife two sons Morris and Lauren a daughter Dee three brothers and three sisters in Denmark and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers.
