Fifth Annual P and E Days Celebration Features Aug Fun
The 5th Annual Poultry and Egg Days festival spreads across Monday and Tuesday, August 15 and 16, with more than $600 in prizes. Activities include a carnival in Tripoli’s downtown, Kiddie rides, a queen contest with judging and a street stage presentation, and a free lunch for contestants. Queen prize cedar chest and a $25 bond plus rider prizes are promised.

Town of Tripoli Increases Local Police Protection
Mayor George V Barnes announces that Tripoli Town Council approved heightened police protection. A full-time marshal and one extra marshal will be sworn in this week, with Randolph Drewis hired as full-time officer alongside Marshal Ed Bany. They will work two shifts, 2 pm to 10 pm and 10 pm to 6 am. Arnold Duecker joins as part-time marshal, alternating Sundays with Frank Bremmer.

Open House Planned At Tripoli Schools Aug 21
Tripoli Community School Superintendent E R Shriver announces an open house for the new junior high addition on Sunday August 21 from 2 to 5 pm. The public is invited to attend. Grant Grove Buys Interest in Ionia Feed Mill
Grant Grove of rural Tripoli says he recently purchased a part interest in the Ionia Feed and Milling Company from Willard Ransom of Ionia. The company name will stay the same. Grove plans a farm sale later this year south of Tripoli and a move to Ionia with his family before March 1. The partnership became effective about two weeks ago.

Wapsie Fish Fry Serves Record Walleye to Large Crowd
The 13th annual Wapsie Sportsmen's Fish Fry drew a capacity crowd of over 2,000, served 1,000 pounds of walleye fillets, 3,000 tea biscuits, 12 loaves of bread, 600 pounds of cabbage and 64 pounds of butter. About 1,753 paid admissions and 250 free under age schoolchildren attended. Prizes totaled 275 door items and a main prize of a $260 vacation for two at Jim Chandler’s Hi Loomis Resort. The event featured the Little German Band and purchased walleye from Canadian Fish Producers Limited.

Waverly-Shell Rock Bond Issue Passes With 79 Percent
The Waverly-Shell Rock bond issue passed last Thursday with 1,003 in favor and 446 against, reaching about 70 percent districtwide and 75 percent in Waverly versus 51 percent in Shell Rock. Conservation Commission Seeks 60 Deer Licenses
The Iowa Conservation Commission invites hunter applicants for 7000 shotgun deer licenses at $10 each. Applications must be postmarked by Oct 14 and sent to the central office in Des Moines or county recorders. Bow and arrow licenses run Sept 1 to Nov 27 with no issuing limit. Five persons were fined in July in Barnes' mayoral court, totaling $27.00 plus costs. Grant Grove of Tripoli paid $1.00 for parking in a restricted area. Stanley Waterman of Sumner was fined $8.00 for speeding. James Schwartz of Tripoli paid $3.00 for illegal parking.
