Ambulance department attendants earned National EMT certificates after completing the required testing. Four Bremer County students and four others gained national EMT status, with scholarships for UNT admittees and acceptance at Northwestern College for Sharise Hodges.
Dada Julius, a 32 year old Nigerian secondary school teacher studying math, is a guest in Robert Beckers home near Plainfield. The event aims to acquaint international students with American agricultural and rural life, an Iowa Farm Bureau Women initiative.
Residents reminded to register for the June Primary and November General Election including address changes. In Tripoli, registration is at the city clerk 8 am to 5 pm Monday to Thursday or at the Bremer County Auditor in Waverly. Music Mothers plan a May 5 meeting at 8 p.m. in the high school home economics room for guest night.
Tripoli Community School plans a combined Art, Shop, and Home Economics show on Tuesday May 11 at the high school. Junior and senior displays and demonstrations will be in the gym and classrooms from 7 20 to 9 00 p m with refreshments and no admission charged. A public meeting is set for Wednesday May 5 at 8 p m in the high school library with school board members to discuss curriculum changes focusing on reading and math.
The Tripoli Men’s City Bowling Women’s event will be held Saturday May 15 with a banquet at 6 30 p.m. at Tripoli City Hall and a dance at Maple Hills Country Club starting 9 p.m. Tickets 250 includes meal and dance dance only 1 at the door. Tickets available at the Bowl Inn plus Marie Meyer Al Kuecker Chuck Heinemann and Connie Gardner.
The Bremer-Butler Area Diabetes Unit invites all to a May 4 gathering at the Waverly Homes recreation hall 320 15th St NW at 7 30 p m. The guest speaker is the Candy Kitchen owner from Cedar Falls speaking on diabetic candy. The program includes canning and freezing ideas and a call for insulin bottle donations. Fred Fink was admitted to Allen Hospital Waterloo for observation and treatment.
Tom and Carla Burchers plan a Sunday May 2 recital at 3:00 p.m. in the Tripoli High School music room. Carla teaches at Wapsie Valley Schools and both are longtime Cedar Rapids natives and recent Tripoli residents. Works include Bach, Caplet, Heiden, Piston, and Bach duets with Andra Selick. Accompanists June Buhr, Marilyn Seefeld, and Carla Grotskruger. Admission is free.
Area seniors are invited to a May 7 Tulip Festival tour to Pella leaving Waterloo at 7 am and 7:30 am from two churches. Bus round trip is $5.50 per person with additional tours to Adventure Land Living History Farms Grants Home and more at $5.75 to $6.25. Information by Ms. Anderson Ms. Petersen or W J Brewster. Meeting at City Hall May 5 for potluck. bingo gifts for grab bag. Eleven Wartburg College studentswill spend a week in Chicago for Early Childhood Education study visiting centers and assisting teachers with activities. Participants include Cynthia Asmus Colleen Marquardt.
Murray L Holm 19 son of Mr and Mrs Duane F Holm of Tripoli Iowa enlisted in the Air Force Delayed Enlistment Program on April 16 and will begin four years of active duty in October He will attend six weeks of basic training at Lackland Texas then seven weeks training as Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Specialist at Sheppard AFB Texas Holm graduated from Tripoli Community School in 1975 and was recruited by Tech Sergeant Earle B Cole Air Force recruiter in Waterloo
The Bremer County Historical Society holds its annual meeting on Tuesday May 4 at 7 30 p m in St Pauls Lutheran Parish House Waverly A short business meeting precedes a chalk talk by Herbert V Hake emeritus director of radio and television at the University of Northern Iowa The talk on the Bicentennial theme Happy Birthday America will be illustrated by chalk drawings All invited non members may attend the chalk talk and view displays Coffee and cookies will follow adjournment
Andra Selck of Tripoli High was chosen by the Bockhaus Bartels Post No 356 American Legion Auxiliary to attend the 1976 Iowa American Legion Auxiliary Girls State at the University of Northern Iowa Cedar Falls June 5 to 12. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert Selck and has been active in school activities. Girls State teaches government via a learn by doing approach with participants acting as voting citizens from neighborhood to state levels. Returns Home Mrs Paul Judisch came home last Wednesday from Allen hospital Waterloo after a 19 day stay.
Tripoli Pantherettes finish second as Dunkerton wins the triangular meet at Dunkerton. Tripoli’s Gail Moeller and Linda Kirchhoff highlight with multiple events. new school record set in the mile by Terri Leisinger. Upcoming meets listed including East Buchanan Relays and twin-city duals.
Tripoli High trackmen place fourth of six at the Comet Relays in Charles City on April 23, earning 42 points. Individual top finishes include Scott Deyo 4th in 120 hurdles, Brent Bull 3rd in 120 meters and Max Moeller 2nd in 800, with several relays placing in the top six.
THS Music Department presents a pre contest concert on Wednesday April 28 at 7 30 p m in the high school gymnasium. The program features the girls glee club mixed chorus concert band and Division 1 rated soloists and groups from the Small Group Contest held April 2 3. The public is invited and admission is free. The two large vocal groups and the concert band will compete in the State Large Group Contest on May 1.
The Waltz Studios photographer will visit City Hall on Thursday May 6 for the Future Citizen series. Appointments are 9 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday at the Tripoli Leader office 882-4207. No obligation to buy and finished portraits arrive about four weeks after photos.
The A to Z pre school program will open this fall in Tripoli with a Tuesday and Thursday session. It serves children ages 3 to 5 and will meet 9 30 to 11 30 a m at Mrs Richard Meyer home. The staff of two includes a certified teacher and an experienced aide. Call Bev Meyer or Joyce H Mann for info or enrollment.
Tripoli High school opens golf with boys and girls both finishing runner up in a triangular at South Winneshiek. Denver wins boys 164 to 183 and girls 205 to 233 for Tripoli. Medalists: Fran zen of Denver 38 and Sandy Buhrow 44. Next events scheduled through May 4.
